La Estancia B&B, Jungle in the City
by bpwarne about La Estancia
We stayed at La Estancia in April of 2006 for two nights upon arrival in Panama City and again for two nights in May upon our return from the Chiriqui highlands, before flying home. We paid about $55/night which included breakfast for a room on the upper floor with a balcony and view of the Bridge of the Americas. Room was small, very clean, furnishings relatively new, with A/C. No TV is available. We had an unshared bath but it was across the hall from our room. Some rooms have bath attached. Breakfast was buffet style and included hot entrees cooked to order. We both enjoyed it. Staff was friendly and most helpful. The owners, Tammy and Gustavo are quite personable and interesting to chat with also. Free high speed Internet is available, however there is only one PC. There is a fairly large library in one of the numerous sitting rooms. Very quiet and peaceful setting, it's hard to believe your actually in such a large city as Panama City. We found La Estancia to be a very low key, pleasant experience. This B&B is a remodeled military building from the days of the US control over the Panama Canal Zone. Cerro Anconl is presently a nature preserve and there is pleasant hiking up to the top (about 25 minutes) with numerous small animal and bird sightings possible along the way. At the top is a magnificent 360 degree view of the city including Casco Viejo, the Causway, and the canal. We particularly enjoyed watching the wild monkeys and birds in the trees next to the dining balcony at breakfast time. Bananas are hung out on nearby trees by the staff each morning for the monkeys to enjoy.
If you wish to be in 'the thick of it' in the city, then La Estancia is not for you. If you would rather be away from the crowds and noise, in a wooded jungle setting and yet only a 10 minute ride from many of the citys main attractions, including Casco Viejo, the Causeway and Albrook Mall, then this may be the ideal spot.
taxis in panama
by bevilyn
hi about your question. a regular taxi costs like $5 or even less plus extra pasengers 25cents to go to albrook mall but if you want a tourism taxi $10 1 to 2 pasengers add a dollor for extra passenger. the difference bettween them is that a regular taxi has really bad conditions(ac dammage most times) and the taxi driver will hardly understand what your saying because most of them dont speak english. and the tourism taxi has great car condition and the taxi driver speaks english and someitimes other languages. if you need more info contact me
Albrook bus terminal
by vtdanny
The terminal is pretty much a mini mall on it's own. On street level ,You get your ticket counters for various destinations, all types of shops, food court, bar , and it's connected to the super huge Albrook Mall.
Traffic there is horrible during weekends.

Taxi from Plaza Paitilla to Allbrook Mall?
by ReyRex
Hi, I will be in Panama next week!!
I will stay on Plaza Paitilla Hotel, and want to know how much costs a taxi from the hotel to Allbrook Mall?
Thanks in advance!!!
Re: Taxi from Plaza Paitilla to Allbrook Mall?
by Fantasmine
It depends on the taxi driver!!, but taxis in Panama are very cheap, sometimes they charge you $1,50, or $3 (if they use the corridor), only once I was in a hurry, there was a lot of traffic, all the taxi drivers ASKED Where are you going? and they say :NO WAY...(This is suppose to be forbidden, and you can complaint, etc, but nobody does), then a "smart" one told me he would go, but I had to pay him $6 (I did it).
Anyway I still think taxis are very cheap compared to Europe, I always gave them more, because I think it is a very hard job in HOT Panama City .
