Downtown Hotel

Hotel Benidorm is just up from and on the same block as the Immigration Office. So if you live in the outlying provinces and need to be at the Immigration Office at 7:30 AM, when they open, this is probably the most economical choice in the area.
It is not fancy, but the room was sparkling clean and had decent A/C although it looked kind of rough and the unit needed cleaning itself. Hot water worked and the bath was decent sized, one could turn around and not smash into the opposite wall, as I have had to deal with in other Panamanian hotels.
The hotel has an elevator, that worked.
Attached to it is Restaranate Pizzaria Romanaccio. It is open till 11PM and serves pizza, sandwiches and some seafood. It is kind of pricey for the type of restaurant it is, but not outrageous, see my seperate tip on it.
They serve all three meals, and have a bar with limited liquor service and beer.
The hotel rooms have a quirky energy saving device, that threw me. You have to insert your key card into the device that is on the wall just inside the door or the a/c and main lights in the room won't function, you can turn on the bathroom light, but that is all unless you insert your card in the device. They have this so you don't run the a/c all the time you are out of the room. Only bad thing is the room is warm when you arrive, but he a/c cooled it off quickly. The have decent windows in the room and blinds.
I would stay here again and was pleasantly satisfied with the accomodations and the Restaurant.
There are other hotels in the area, like the Covandonga, across the street, but it is more expensive. This is the cheapest and best in the area that I have found.
