It's a dump

Please. Please. Please don't stay here! The website makes this place look like paradise, equipped with luxurious suites and five star accomodation. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

We stayed here for two nights in one of the "modern" City View Suites. What a tremendous waste of money. The room was large, but ill equipped and dirty. Much like the rest of the hotel, the room had not been updated since 1970, which would have been kind of charming had it been clean. Additionally, the service we received was miserable. None of the three telephones in our room worked, so we had to stop by reception every time we had a request -- like begging to have our room cleaned.

While the pool that the hotel has is nice, it simply does not make up for the low quality of the rest of the this hotel. Don't stay here.

Unique Quality: Elevators that didn't work
Staff that were totally unhelpful
A disgusting breakfast bar

Near Bancaria and Cangrejo Districts

I haven't stayed here, but the people I know who have, said it is very nice. The rooms are large and suite-like. They are very well cared-for.
Room rates range from $150-500 per night, all include buffet breakfast.
Cabana rooms on the pool level are $160.
They also have meeting rooms of all sizes up to a football field-sized banquet hall.

Unique Quality: Hotel is near bancaria district and cangrejo. Several casinos close by, one adjactent to the property. There are two fine restaurants on site, Flamingo's, which has an outstanding lunch buffet, and Las Palmas Bar-B-Q. Check for other offers at the restaurants, they have specials continuously.
The pool is large and nicely located near the restaurants, the pool bar is open evenings from 5-8 and weekends from about noon.
This is a fine hotel for sophisticated travelers and has all the amenities one could expect from a first-class hotel.

Great place to stay!!

Hotel Panama has a great location and the hotel is very nice. The food is great and the rooms are quite clean. The hotel definitely has a Panamanian feel to it .. Very outdoorsy . And you can choose from having a room in the highrise part of it or the cabanas right by the pool. The pool has a bar that you can swim right up to and sit in the pool and have a cuba libre ... cerveza or whatever you want!! The casino is quite nice too which is part of the hotel or you can choose to cross the street and go to the Crown Casino which has a little more action and a better bar area...

Unique Quality: Free breakfast.... and food 24 hrs .... great location.... nice pool bar.... I'd come back here in a heartbeat!!

Decent spot - good location

Hotel El Panama is located in what seemed to be a safe part of the city. There's a decent Chinese restaurant across the street, lots of other great restaurants nearby, and it's not too far to walk to many of the city's spots of interest.

The hotel has two parts: the main hotel plus some rooms out back. The "out back" rooms (I can't find any information about this on their website, and not sure what they called them when we booked) were much cheaper than, and not nearly as nice as the main hotel’s rooms. The benefit of having a ground floor balcony looking out on the pretty pool area (plus the much lower cost), however, was worth experiencing the lower quality of rooms.

Morning breakfasts were served in an outdoor setting, looking over the pool - very nice. The hotel restaurants were pretty good, but way too expensive for the quality, and the staff was a bit standoffish.

Overall a pretty decent hotel and worth the price we paid (got a good discount). At its advertised rates, however ($140USD for a standard room), I think this hotel would be overpriced.

Unique Quality: - Nice pool with a swim up bar
- Decent restaurants
- Cigar shop just around the corner
- Good location

More about Hotel El Panama

Gambling

by bilgeez about Royal Casino in the Marriott Bancaria

There is no shortage of Casinos in Panama City. Near the Bancaria Area, there are at least six, At Hotels El Panama, Continental, Veneto, Marriott, also the Bingo 90 and Fiesta at Multicentro Mall on Ave. Balboa. One of the cleanest and with the best service I have found is the Royal Casino attached to the Marriott in the Bancaria in Panama City. They have a cheap prix fixe lunch for just $2.99 weekdays, it has sancocho chicken soup, chicken with rice and some meat dish, dessert and coffee, tea or a soft drink. They also have dinners and weekend brunch there from $3.99. They have an ample supply of slots and live table games. Something I dare you to find in the States anymore, $2 Blackjack tables! Gai Pow and Texas Hold´em poker and Caribbean 21, as well as craps and roulette. The staff is usually friendly and if you order a drink at the machines or tables you don´t have to wait forever to get your order! It is not as big as some other Casinos in the area, the Veneto or the Fiesta at Hotel El Panama or Multicentro, but it is friendlier and offers much better service. I would not dress like a slob, but I have gone in with shorts and sandals and they haven´t bothered me.

Buffet Grande!

by bilgeez about Flamingo's

Flamingo's is located in Hotel El Panama in the Cangrejo district of Panama City. The restraurant is open 24/7, but has a serious lunch buffet, every day for $22 per person. You can eat all you want and it includes one soft drink, coctail or beer, and all the coffee, tea or water you want.
The buffet is available from noon to three, at other times the restaurant offers pretty much the same as the buffet on the menu at ala carte or three- or four-course meal prices.
The bargain is to get the lunch buffet, you can easily spend the buffet price, per person, on the regular menu.
The room itself is very pleasant with food along one wall and windows open to the outside on the other. It is a very bright and airy environment, and with the hotel facing south, the restaurant is in shade at lunch time. So one will not have sun in their face in the dining room. The restraurant is also open to the pool for even more visual stimulation. The Buffet is the reason to come here. If you want to pig, pig, pig out, on a wide variety of food and try some things you may not have had before, this is the place to do it!
The quality is superb, the variety is overwhelming. There are at least six choices of all courses of a meal from appetizers through dessert. There is at least one Panamanian dish in each course selection, so you can try on Panamanian food without fear and if you don't like it, you won't be out anything, just go choose something more to your liking. Their buffet includes a taco stand and carved-to-order meat and a sandwich board. Nothing is overlooked.
The service is fine, of course, it is self-serve at the buffet, but as soon as your plate is empty, it is whisked away, so no clutter on the table. Waitstaff is always roving to refill water or coffee.
I love to come here to celebrate special occasions, after you try it, you will, too!

Best Restaurants in PC

by fraga

Hi There!

Any advices on the best restaurants in PC...?
From what I've read I already selected:

- Manolo Caracol
- Barandas Restaurant
- La Posta
- Cafe Barko
- Madame Chang's

I don't have preference for any kind of food, I just want good restaurants overall
Do you agree? Would you recommend any other...?

Thanks!

Re: Best Restaurants in PC

At Hotel El Panama, they have an unbelieveable lunch buffet every day from 12-3. It's $22 per person, but they have such a variety I dare you to try everything! Manolo is over-priced for what you get, I would go to Pollo Pelau, a couple blocks away on Via Espana They have much the same food for about half the price. It's not fancy, but it's GOOD and it is more Typical Panamanian food. The others, I haven't tried. for Asian, Golden Unicorn in the Evergreen building behind ATLAPA is very good and not that expensive. Look at my restaurant tips in my travel pages. I got about a dozen restaurants in PC I wrote up.
