Plaza Paitilla Inn

If you're used to staying in hostels or other South American hotels...you'll have no problem with Plaza Paitilla. But if you're used to nice Marriotts and Crowne Plazas in the states, this place is kind of crap.

Pros: Very cheap minibar prices ($1 for a soda); excellent location (right across from a huge mall, cinema, the Sky Bar, and Hard Rock Cafe...15 minute walk from a big supermarket); spectacular view of the city

Cons: Ridiculously expensive internet ($16 for 24 hours...and I had a lot of problems with it working properly); horrible food (ordered room service about 5 times...really low-quality food); they were remodeling when I was there so that meant loud hammering in the morning and slow elevators; maidservice continually cleaned my room even with the Do Not Disturb sign clearly displayed and my telling them every day that I didn't need it cleaned; No voicemail system on the room phones (bad if you're with a large group and nobody has cell phones); window-box air conditioning units that can get really loud (needed to turn it off while I was sleeping due to the noise, but couldn't because I need AC in Panama!); the bed and pillows were very hard

Unique Quality: Business Center and nice swimming pool.

The area around the hotel is very nice. As a girl, I felt safe walking around by myself...even after dark (8 or 8:30 was the latest I went out if I was going far from the hotel though).

Nice view..price update

I always enjoyed staying at this hotel as well..it does indeed have a good location and an excellent view of the bay. However, as an update, all hotel prices in the city have risen quite a lot in the few years since my first visit,..the room at the paitilla that cost me $50 per night a few years ago is now going for $100 a night..about average in the city now..

Hotel Plaza Paitilla, room with a view

We stayed at the Hotel Plaza Paitilla (aka: Paitilla Inn) for three nights in May, 2006. Our room was on the 16th floor, was quite large with a large bathroom, cable TV w/English channels, mini bar (with very reasonable prices) and many nice ammenities. It was recently remodeled. The most impressive feature of the room was the fantastic view of the bay and city skyline from the enormous floor to ceiling/wall to wall window. We paid about $50/night w/o breakfast. There were rooms on a lower floor for about $15 less but they had not been remodeled and had a lesser view. We did eat at the breakfast buffet though and it was excellent with a very wide variety of cooked and uncooked food. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. They cashed travelers checks for us on two occassions. There was a very attractive outdoor pool on the ground floor which we did not use. Internet was available for an additional charge in a large Busines Center room on the ground floor. At $1.50/half hour, it is a bit steep by Panama standards.

Unique Quality: Fantastic views, terrific mall (The Multicentro Mall) just a few minute walk away, within sight. Also, another big mall, the Multiplaza Mall is only a short, $1.50 cab ride away.
Lounge/Bar, Restaurant, Business Center, very attractive outdoor pool.
Caution though: This is an older hotel and like many in Panama, there is no fire sprinkler system. If that is a concern for you, you may wish to be on a lower floor.
Also, you will usually get a better price for a cab if you walk away from the hotel about 50 feet than those flagged by the doorman.
