More about Hotel Via Espana

One block off Via España

by snogofer about Marbella Hotel

This hotel is a small, clean well run establishment with competent friendly staff.
Two nice young ladies called "Mitzi " and "Tamara:" gave me invaluable advice on travel within Panama.

The attached restaurant has good selection of Panamanian and North American food at reasonable prices. It has an excellent location only one block from via espana in the center of the banking district, a pool, a restaurant, and internet computers available for the guests.

Carnaval

by Jim_Eliason about Via Espana

Due to my trip coinciding with Carnaval, there was no reason to seek out any other nightlife as the party was going all night on Via Espana in Cangrejo. casual, covered in confetti and ready to dance

Via Espana - Panama City

by rudocp

Take a walk along Via Espana. There are designer stores, electronics shops, internet cafes, jewelry stores, malls, fast food places, etc. You also get to see and HEAR all the local busses!

Buy where locals buy

by alfredop about San Miguelito Plaza

If you want the best prices, do not buy at Via Espana or any other major mall, buy at San Miguelito. Take a taxi there. You'll not get the best quality but the best prices and deals, you'll be able even to bargain at the stores. Shoes, average watches, clothing, souvenirs. Bargain!

Fascinate Adventures - Travel Agency

by elsadran

They offer various excursions but even if you are not going to travel or book anything with them they can help you giving you detailed information . They are extremely helpful and polite. They also have an office in Panama hotel on Via Espana.

Hotel Via Espana - neighborhood?

by njnoelsue

Hi,

Thanks for your help and feedback from previous post.

We have narrowed down our PC lodging to between Cosco Viejo and the area around Hotel Via Espana. Question is which neighborhood is safer? We have teeenage kids who will be with us and would probably like the freedom of going to neighborhood cafe for a bit? I have read mixed things about the part of "Bella Vista" that Hotel Via Espana is in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

family of eight in Panama - traveling by bus around the country

by njnoelsue

Hi,

We are a family of eight (mom/dad - 21 year old dtr and her boyfriend, and our four other children [17, 15, 12, 10]) - and are arriving in Panama on 20 June. We will be staying in Panama City for three days then heading to Boquete for 3 days followed by 5 days in Bocas del Toros (renting a cottage on Isla Bastimentos). Questions are many - but the one I am working on now is transport about the country. Too expensive to fly around the nations (multiply everything by 8 - the airfare from the states was enough!), so we have opted for buses. We have done bus trans around Belize and Costa Rica, so are somewhat familiar. Does anyone have any recomendations - is this feasible? The plan was to go from PC to David the Boquete one morning-early afternoon, and then when we leave Boquete go back to David and then change buses to ferry to Bocas. Any feedback would be helpful.

One last thing, we seem very taken by Casco Viejo and are considering renting one or two of the renovated apts there as opposed to staying in the Center City/downtown area. I have heard mixed things about safety, does anyone have any feedback or input?

Thanks so much for your time. We cannot wait to go to Panama!

Bus transportation is simple in Panama so no worries there. As far as Casco Viejo - I wasn't impressed - at all. Nothing very charming about it and most of this 'renovated' area has yet to be touched. Pretty ugly in fact and the drag is that you are pretty far away from the new city center out there so you will likely be limited to services? Just my two cents -

The buses are fine. You won't have any trouble. I spent a couple of weeks going all over Chiriqui and Bocas del Toros provinces. I never had any troubles. (It does help to speak some Spanish, though. I don't know how it would be with only English.)

where should I stay in Panama City?

by emmet7

I will be there next week on business and want to stay in fun area that is central for transport. Please recommend an area and a hotel name if possible. After work I really want to go out to hear 'live music' and visit local galleries. Thank you in advance!

Business trip in PTY and first timer ? The El Cangrejo area ( area around Via Espana and Via Argentina ) may be your better option. There are good restaurants, department stores, fashion boutiques, net cafe's, casinos around as well. It's easy to get taxi's there even right off the street.
