More about Ceiba Country Inn
Friendly Bed & Breakfast near El Yunque Forest
We spent a night in July 2010 in Ceiba Country Inn located on a tropical Puertorican plantation. This well maintained bed and breakfast Inn offers 9 rooms on the ground level with various sleeping accommodations available. There are two separate patio areas with picnic table, hammocks and chairs. The upper level features the breakfast room with a large outdoor patio.
Our air conditioned room with a queen bed and a bathroom was perfectly clean and we liked to watch heavy rainfall from our outdoor patio. In the lounge upstairs was a TV and board games for guests.
The staff was very friendly and casual.
Continental breakfast served from 7 am was basic and included fresh fruit, coffee, bread and cake.
A biggest disadvantage of Ceiba Country Inn is that nearest decent restaurants are in Fajardo and this is about 20 minutes drive (if you can find the way at once).
Surroundings of Ceiba Country Inn are beautiful and this is a great place for nature lovers. This is also a good stop on a road trip through Puerto Rico and also a good base for excursions to nearby El Yunque Forest.
I would recommend this bed and breakfast for people who like nature and a little adventure but can value some comfort and safety as well. Rooms are very clean and the surrounding tropical vegetation makes Ceiba Country Inn worth to visit.
Great Getaway at the Ceiba Country Inn!
We had a perfect stay at the Ceiba Country Inn with our two boys, ages 13 and 10. Falling asleep to the sound of the tree frogs at night and waking up to the neighborhood roosters was a real treat for us city folk; but if you prefer quiet, you can close your ventanas and turn on the A/C! Still, the local flavor can't be beat, the rooms are spotless and comfortable, and the breakfast spread is fabulous!
Several rooms have hilltop water views, and the location is ideal for El Yunque (rainforest), Luquillo Beach, and the marina at Fajardo for day sailing/snorkeling trips.
It's only an hour from San Juan, but a world away!!!! Can't wait to go back...
Best value, good people.
We spent the first two nights of our week in Puerto Rico with Sue, Dick and their rescue dogs at Ceiba Country Inn the last week in February. While it's not a fancy place, we didn't expect it to be, and it was perfectly clean and comfortable. The owners are really good regular people who have great hearts. PR has a sad stray dog problem that has improved in recent years, and Sue and Dick have taken in and properly cared for five of the sweet creatures. They are a highlight of the Inn, in our opinion, especailly Mini, who reminded us of our own dog.
Anyway, talking to Dick over a drink or Sue over coffee is a lot like talking to someone you've known a while at home. They are just good folks, and their place is like being in someone's home but with privacy. The sounds at night are lovely.
Peace and quiet near the rainforest
We stayed at Ceiba Country Inn for 5 nights in January 2006. The proprieters, Sue & Dick, were very helpful and gave us great information for sight-seeing and dining. Breakfast was great - simple fruits, cereal, breads, juice, coffee, etc., but very tasty.
The rooms are very clean and neat - good daily maid service. Not luxury accomodations, but very pleasant decor. Nice to have an in-room refrigerator.
The Inn has "loaner" beach chairs and towels to take to the beach on request.
The Inn is situated in the foothills outside El Yunque park (rainforest), and has gorgeous views of the forest. You feel like there are no other people living nearby (aside from the roosters crowing far in the distance in the morning!). The coqui frogs sing you to sleep at night!
Definitely get a rental car to get around the island if you stay in this location. You get a much better feel for Puerto Rico if you do that anyway.
Even though you are right on the edge of the forest, it still is a half hour drive to the rainforest entry - any closer entrances have been closed for years. Also, the Inn doesn't get all the rain of the rainforest as its elevation is lower and it is situated east of the rainforest.
Luquillo beach is minutes from the Inn and is gorgeous! If you want to avoid parking costs and don't mind a little more surf, you can also go to Playa Azul in Luquillo - just ask Sue or Dick for directions.
Fajardo is also minutes from the Inn - that is the location where you pick up the ferries for Vieques and Culebra and also a location to take a kayak tour of the bioluminescent bay in Fajardo. Just FYI, the biobay is best in the late spring into the summer when the water is warmer. Also try to go when it is close to a New Moon to get the best bioluminescence. We went with Yokahu Kayak Trips - very nice and professional.
If you hate having dogs and cats around, think twice about Ceiba Country Inn. When we went, there were 5 dogs and 2 cats as the welcoming party. The animals are all VERY friendly, but they will come to greet you when you arrive. They are well-trained to not jump on you or harass you, but they are still around the property (mostly just lounging around) all the time.
We absolutely LOVED our vacation in Puerto Rico and can't wait to go back!
Just what we wanted
It was the first night of our first time visit in Puerto Rico, we had no idea what we were expecting, but Ceiba Country Inn was just perfect! It isn't a fancy hotel but a perfect-for-PuertoRico-Inn. The owners were friendly and helpful, they even have menus for nearby restaurants that you can check out where you want to go eat before hand (most things are only about 15-20min away). We went to one in Fajardo near KMart (can't remember the name) upon suggestion. It was Cuban but offered Puerto Rican dishes and I recommend you try the meat and potatoes with sides of Platas (fried bananas) it was so yummy!
The Inn itself is a bit off the main El Yunque Rain Forest and is back into the road but offers a great view and a feel of being in a forest with the sounds of the Coqui tree frogs singing into the night (I tried so hard to find them, but they're so hard to see!). It's just so different from what we're used to in Chicago, that it felt like we were out in a jungle somewhere:) The owners are so kind that they take in stray dogs, but they are completely harmless and won't bother you at all, and although I'm personally not one to like many dogs, I felt comfortable with them (you can see them just laying around in my pictures).
The room we stayed in had 2 beds, small private shower, and an alarm clock. There is an A/C unit as well (we didn't need it though) and overall, small but was kept clean and no bugs! The breakfast in the morning was great too; continental style with plenty of selection.
If you're looking to enjoy the laid back feel of Puerto Rico and want to surround yourself in the enviornment, this will be a great place for you! We personally loved it~
A wonderful place to stay.
I stayed at the Inn last year for 2 weeks while working at the Naval base
and it was great. Everything I wanted to do while in Puerto Rico was
nearby. Such as, the Rain Forest, boat trips, snorkling, and great local
resturants. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the sounds
of the rain forest at night was so relaxing.
I would recommended this inn to anyone planning a trip to Puerto Rico,
and I can't wait to get back myself!

Not in the rainforest El Yunque
After reading the reviews I was under the impression that the Ceiba Inn was in the rainforest or nearby. Once we arrived, we asked the owners where's the entrance to the rainforest and they said it's a half hour drive.
The room was very clean but had no TV (a must when traveling with small children). It is also very secluded and you must drive almost half hour to get to a nice restaurant.
Great Place at a Great Price
We only stayed one night but it was great! Very clean, very comfortable, great breakfast! (even better than the one I had at the Caribe Hilton). See the pictures that I am attaching...it's not a resort but it's a very nice bed and breakfast.
I would definately stay there again and not just for one night!
Perfect Place to Stay!!!
Me and 4 of my other friends stayed at this INN Aug. 22-25. The place is up a mountain, beautiful scenery, and very quiet. We loved it! The owners were awesome, very friendly, and were very helpful.
Continental Breakfast included breads, cereals, fresh fruits, and juice. The room was very spacious, 2 double bed, and a rollaway bed. And did not feel cramped at all!!
I would definetly stay there again!
