Mamacitas: Small Room | Cheap Price

by Greatwalk0

Mamacitas is a nice little guesthouse, perfectly located on the island. Prices are extremely cheap, but remember -- you get what you pay for. Accomodations are simple (but that's part of the Culebra charm) and the rooms are small, but when visiting the island you won't be spending a terrible amount of time in your hotel room anyway.

We were very satisfied.

Staff were friendly when they were there. :)

Great location! Minutes walking from most bars and restaurants. Close to the big beaches.

On the beach

by maharaja_joe

We camped at the campground on Flamenco beach. It costs around $10 per night. You have to get your own tent. It is very safe, even when deserted. We had no problems, whatsoever. And there were only three tents in the campground at that time. Culebra is a pretty safe place, and the locals like to keep it that way.

The campground has all the basic amenities: bathrooms, showers, water. If you want to camp in Culebra, there is no better place than Flamenco beach. You can get up in the morning to the sound of the ocean, and literally walk up to the beach in less than 30 seconds. At night the place is very calm and romantic. But there are no general stores or hotels within walking distance. You will have to stock up during the day time. If you have rented a vehicle, then there is no problem at all.

Culebra Ocean View: Short Walk from Dewey

by chodearm

We purged ourselves onto the docks with questions of location. The little tourist office to the left provided useless answers. "You need to take the Público it is a 25 minute walk, but with those bags at least 45" We overcame, we didn't wait for any Público and we walked there in 10 minutes. Just south of the only town on Culebra, Dewey the hotel sat atop a steep hill with views of the bay. I would recommend laying between those same sheets and do look for some hairs I might of left behind. If they are still there than they don't wash their sheets but if you can't locate those dark little rascals than they do do wash.

Our room had sliding doors that opened to a balcony, and it was coated in wall to wall tiling I guess to withstand the wet beach towels and salty/sandy feet. Water pressure was nil but what do you expect on an island.

I do recommend a stay for the locaion was perfect for going to any end of the island.

We were going to catch the 6:30 ferry back to the big Island so after a night of heavy drinking we had the alarm set for 5:00 am to fish up the packing early. Yuki jumps out of scare to the caellphone alarm screaming. Her feet land in a 1/4 inch of water that sheated the whole floor. The pillows, the comforter, some luggage were all sacrificed to the gods of water. A late night rain rolled through and bypassed the non-weather stripped door and layed all over the room. In a quick dash to the ferry we tried using the cheap-ass Walgreens 3.99 towel to wipe up the flood but the color dyes from the towel wanted to be upon cheap threads no more. The beach shell print blue stained our skin and colored floor a bit. I got a hotel towel into the mix and it too suffered a staining. Bagged them up like a used profelactic and tossed it in the garbage down the street.

Tamarindo Estates: Fun at Tamarindo Estates!

by CulturalCompetence

Tamarindo Estates is beautiful! There is a private beach with a decent coral reef right on the property. The road to the hotel is a little rough, so we definitely recommend renting a 4x4 vehicle! We rented a 4x4 Suzuki Samari (manual transmission) from the hotel. I can't imagine trying to get around without it!

Clean pool. Quiet, private beach. Clean facilities. Hot water. Hotel rate included the car rental.
