Too high a price for what you get
To stay at this resort you need to have a fat wallet, because it's overly priced, especially during high season. The drinks & restaurant are quite expensive, so buy the full package if you're going to stay for longer than 2 nights. But there are so many wonderful restaurants that the local people go to that are far better and cheaper. The beach is pretty, but the water only comes up to your knees, and you have to walk several hundred feet out in order to get to deeper water. Great for toddlers, though.
Unique Quality: Wonderful side of the island, far away from the hustle-bustle of San Juan. Ponce is only 1 hr. drive on a good highway, and has a lot of historical sites, museums, galleries, shopping and restaurants. My favorite is "Mark's" at the Melia Hotel right across from the town square.
My twelve-year-old daughter and I just arrived home from spending the last week in March at the Copamarina and I highly recommend it. The resort itself is lovely, beautifully landscaped with two pools, two kiddie pools and two jacuzzis. We had the breakfast buffet included in our room rate which was a good deal since it was $18 per person ($12 for children) when not included in the room charge. We often had lunch at the poolside restaurant and had dinner there several nights, sitting outside listening to the wonderful guitarist. The service, contary to what others have written here, was consistently efficient, pleasant and professional. The dinner menu was on the expensive side but the prices are typical of meals at quality resorts and there are plenty of other restaurants within a half hour to 45 minute drive. The beach is lovely but the swimming there is quite limited by very shallow water and lots of sea grass--fine for wading but not really swimming and definitely not snorkling right from the beach. We rented a car and left the resort for sightseeing just about every day as there are spectacular beaches, beautiful scenery, delicious restaurants in nearby towns, but you will have to drive to see them and just plan to take the time to get there. One of the reasons the Copamarina is wonderful is that it is a hidden jewel--not overrun with people and not touristy, just a quality resort secuded in a wonderful part of the island. Also contary to what others have said here, the resort is not difficult to find and the drive from San Juan is quite easy, taking about 90 minutes to 2 hours. In short, great resort, ideal for families and couples alike.
Great honeymoon

Spent five days of our of our honeymoon at the copa marina march 2004. Its hard to write how great the hotel was because i would hate it to become busy and touristy. If you want to relax by the pool or beach in beautifull surroundins with most importantly NO SCREAMING KIDS you will love it. This is not typical tourist puerto rico, it is quiet, slow pace and very romantic. Most of the days we were the only ones by the secluded lagoon style pool. it has a bar next to it were bartenders dont cheat you on the alcohol. The service was great which makes it hard to understand some of the other reviews, unless the patrons were arrogant and nasty. Everyone here speaks english and will go out of their way to help you. make reservations for dinner outside were there was a great guitar player every night. There is alot to do if you are adventurous we recomend the snorkling trip provided by copa marina with capt Bill and dive master Tony. They were great and will take you to a reef packed with fish. We loved this hotel for what it was, an escape of a tourist/kid filled resort. just wear your flip flops and bathing suit and relax. Will definetly come back again. Also very low speedo index!!!!!
Quiet & Relaxed Place to Visit

"Beautiful scenery, nice people but a little dull"
We stayed at the Hotel 1929 which is on the outskirts of Guanica, only because it was much less expensive than the Copamarina. The first impression was that we were going back in time to when the sugar barons stayed here while they did business in Guanica (which was once the biggest sugar center on the island). The food and service were mediocre, to say the least. This is a hotel that the tourism dept. is using to train future hotel workers, thus you can imagine the inefficiency. The pool is nice, but there is absolutely nothing to do here except stay in your room and rest. I hope they improve this hotel because it has a lot of possibilities.
