We arrived at the hotel by way of our rental car. The streets leading to the Plaza de Armas are small, old world, blue cobbelstone which you would only want to drive down with a compact car. The hotel is directly between the 2 nightlife sectors of the city, so you only have to walk 2 or more blocks to be right in the mix of it all. You do, however, have to park several blocks away in public parking, which can cost you anywhere from $5 to $20 per night, even though we were told it only cost a few bucks per night. After we picked our car up the second morning we ended up paying quite a bit more than expected for some unknown reason. The parking attendant was of no help either.
The concierges at the hotel were most helpful. They were more than willing to give us the knowledge we needed to move about the city. The entrance to the hotel is inviting and has very unique tiles which reflect the blue cobblestone outside. To get to one of 4 levels in the hotel you can take the small 2 person elevator or the small winding staircase. At the time of our arrival the elevator was our of service so we happily walked the cozy stone stairs to our floor which overlooks the breakfast area down below.
The room had no open air vents or windows, but did have an air conditioning unit that kept the room feeling a bit moist at night. Our room with queen bed was well equipped with everything we needed, including coffee pot with local coffees to brew each morning.
I would definitly recommend staying here, especially if you want to be immersed in Old San Juan. Everything is within walking distance on this penninsula, and the vibrant colors of the island and city will beckon you to spend as much time as possible on foot. Plaza De Armas is directly across the street, where you will find locals hanging out at the tiny food cafes on the corners.
