Friendly and Hospitable Midrange Hotel

Friendly and comfortable midrange hotel located right in Town Square. Some (premiums) rooms overlook the Square, the Old Fire Station and the Cathedral. My simple Single Room came with no frills or luxury but was comfortable enough and clean. The front desk staff was very friendly and hospitable; they seemed proud of their city and were eager to promote it. They helped with my itinerary and facilitated an enjoyable stay.

Continental breakfast, served on the rooftop terrace, could have been richer. The hotel has a patio for relaxing and a pool that I didn't try. There is an open-air parking garage right next door that for few dollars (I guess I paid $3) will make your life easy if you have a car.

All in all good-quality accomodation for those interested in staying in Ponce city center. I would consider returning here if back in town.

Classic hotel with character

I'm glad we picked the Melia instead of a typical hotel. This place has very classic architecture and has the feel of a hotel with very classy, upscale history.....I don't know if that makes sense. But considering the Hotel Melia was around $100 for the night it was a very good experience. The rooms aren;t modern, as you could expect, but have nice big beds, and clean classic bathrooms.

Unique Quality: Very old-school experience. Very friendly service too. I would highly recommend the Hotel Melia, especially considering the big box hotel style alternatives.

More about Melia Hotel Ponce

Great Hotel with lots of History and Culture

by theonefisher about Hotel Melia

We stayed for one night in the city of Ponce. Ponce is full of history and great architecture. This hotel features and open courtyard between the lower floors and clean rooms. The price was very reasonable. There is a free breakfast on the roof that offers a great view of the town. There is a statue garden on the roof as well. The staff was extra friendly and eager to help.

If you haven't seen Ponce, you won't want to miss it!

Most tourists stay in San Juan...

by dantes2

Most tourists stay in San Juan and miss the 'real' Puerto Rico. Ponce on the south coast is known as 'la Perla del Sur'- the Pearl of the South. It is a wonderful, provincial little city whose activity centers around the beautiful Plaza (known locally as 'el Parque de Bombas' or 'el Parque de Bomberos' 'the Firemens' Park'. There's a whole story about that so if you go, be sure to ask. (In Ponce I recommend the Hotel Melia- right by the Plaza. Also don't miss 'King's' home made ice cream store, right there facing the park.My favorite is the almond ice cream, but they specialize in Puerto Rican tropical fruit flavors ). There is also Mayaguez in the west and Humacao on the east coast. If you drive, the little towns will amaze you. Don't miss Barranquitas and Jayuya in the mountains- and many many others. (The picture here is of the beautiful Plaza in Humacao).
