I'm glad we picked the Melia instead of a typical hotel. This place has very classic architecture and has the feel of a hotel with very classy, upscale history.....I don't know if that makes sense. But considering the Hotel Melia was around $100 for the night it was a very good experience. The rooms aren;t modern, as you could expect, but have nice big beds, and clean classic bathrooms.
Very old-school experience. Very friendly service too. I would highly recommend the Hotel Melia, especially considering the big box hotel style alternatives.

Friendly and comfortable midrange hotel located right in Town Square. Some (premiums) rooms overlook the Square, the Old Fire Station and the Cathedral. My simple Single Room came with no frills or luxury but was comfortable enough and clean. The front desk staff was very friendly and hospitable; they seemed proud of their city and were eager to promote it. They helped with my itinerary and facilitated an enjoyable stay.
Continental breakfast, served on the rooftop terrace, could have been richer. The hotel has a patio for relaxing and a pool that I didn't try. There is an open-air parking garage right next door that for few dollars (I guess I paid $3) will make your life easy if you have a car.
All in all good-quality accomodation for those interested in staying in Ponce city center. I would consider returning here if back in town.
