SAN JUAN'S ACCOMODATION
reasonable stay. very good location if you need to stay close to the airport. the hotel is situated on the same building of the airport.
in comparison of San Juan hotel prices if very fair and not so far from the city.

San Juan airport
Getting out of the San Juan airport was a breeze, then again it was almost midnight so maybe that's not representative of the normal. If you are traveling from the US, you do not need a passport to enter Puerto Rico since it's a US territory nor do you go through customs. On the way home you have to pass your bags through a check by the USDA before you check in with your airline, both hand luggage and checked luggage. Give yourself at least 2 hours, the lines at United were very slow and the lines through security were very slow and there were lots of people who obviously thought you could get to the airport with much less time than that as they were letting them all cut in line so they didn't miss their planes.
Flight to/from San Juan
Rather than taking the ferry and then driving back to San Juan, we decided to take a direct flight from Culebra to San Juan. There are several small airlines that provide this service at a reasonable cost (approx. $60 each way). We chose to travel with Isla Nena and were happy that everything ran as scheduled. We arrived in the San Juan airport in plenty of time to check in for our flight home. The scenery was spectacular and it was fun to see El Yunque and the beaches from the skies.
Rental tip for Mainland PR
We rented a car from L&M Car Rental
(800-666-0807) for approximately $35/Day. Because L&M has many locations on the PR mainland, we were able to drop off the rental car in Fajardo so we could take the ferry to Culebra and then take a flight back to the San Juan airport. This gave us an extra day on the beaches at Culebra and was a minimal cost. There was a $10-15 "drop-off" fee for dropping the car off at a different location than we had rented from. Most of the other car rental companies required that we return the car to San Juan if we picked it up there...

Best Western San Juan Airport Hotel
Looking for a hotel for a one night pre-cruise stay, Getting in at night (7 pm - hopefully!) and boarding ship next day. Not planning on sightseeing or going to beach before we board. Considering this hotel because it's right at the airport and also looking at Comfort Inn. Price same for both. Just looking for general comfort and convenience. Best Western saves time of ride to hotel @ night. Comfort Inn in area w/places for dinner. Thanks!

The last 2 years i have stayed at the Comfort Inn pre-cruise. We were just there in January and the hotel is in the process of updating all there rooms. We were lucky to get a newly re-done room and it was beautiful. The people at this hotel are very friendly and will do anything to make your stay comfortable. We stayed at the best western 4 yrs ago--very noisy!! but also nice. We liked the Comfort Inn the best as we could walk to dinner and enjoy the condondo area. Hope this helps.
