LOOKING TO REVISIT HOTEL....BUT CANT REMEMBER ITS NAME !!!
by wrostern
For years i have been wanting to re-visit San Juan. The first time i ever went there was with my Father whom is now passed on. It would be a very special trip if i could just remember the name of the hotel that we stayed in.
This sounds sooo silly ! I'm going google crazy trying to solve this mystery!!!
Here is what i have to go by....so if anyone is framiliar with the area or recognize any of these things mentioned....it would be soooo helpfull.
-visited in 2000 or 2001
-The hotel we stayed @ was right on the ocean
-It was under MAJOR RE-CONSRUCTION when we stayed there, all common areas & restaurants were closed. Only had access to the rooms.
-It was beside another large hotel (major chain hotel)
-On the otherside of the hotel was a Historic Building,
Looked like an old Stadium.
(I have done a google search for this and the only thing coming up is called the Bithorn Stadium)
I know this is a strech but, again your help would be greatly appreciated.
Much Thanks

I know the Hilton Caribe which I am familiar with, is close to the stadium on the Ocean, and the one between them would be the Normandie, - I had to look on line to find out the name of that hotel. It appears that it may have closed in 2009 for renovations (again?) If you face the ocean the stadium is on the left and the Hilton Caribe on the right and back a bit. Google Map the Sixto Escobar Stadium, zoom in and you will see the layout of all three properties.
Check out these websites and see if you recognize anything. Good luck.
The hotel website is under construction, but you may recognize the logo, and it has an E-Mail address there. This may be due to renovations closure.

On this one is a satellite map of the area.

Yes it could be The Normandie (But isnow on renovations) or The Hilton... I think The Caribe Hilton was in renovations by that time... Still, but not quite as at 2000.
Do you remember if the airport was near? Or a Park?
Travel Tips for San Juan
La Casita - "Little House"
by starship
The best place to obtain tourism information-- maps, advice-- is "La Casita" or "Little House" which is an attractive yellow building with a Spanish tiled roof located near the waterfront. It's a short walk from the cruise ships piers and right on the edge of the Old San Juan boundries on Plaza de Darsena at the end of La Marina Street. On certain days you will also find a crafts market around the building, but the crafts market schedule fluctuates around the arrival of cruise ships.
Hours of operation for the tourism office is generally:
Monday - Wed, 8:00am to 8:00pm;
Thursday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:30pm; Saturday and Sunday, 9:00am - 8:00pm

San Juan Tip

There is nothing better than a walked thought El Morro in a Saturday afternoon. I don’t know how to explain it without sounding too clichéd, but I think old San Juan has a special magic, when I’m there I feel like I’m some place else. It feels like I’m visiting another country without leaving my country. I think it’s because of the diversity of people that you encounter when you are there. Old San Juan is the only place where you can find the famous “linber” that I used to eat when I was a child. “Linber” is just frozen water with artificial flavors but it’s wonderful to walk around holding a “linber in your hands and getting your teeth all colored and smiling to everybody you meet showing your red or blue teeth.
A cat lover's paradise!

I'm a big-time cat person and I always miss my cat Fitzwilliam very much when I travel - that's why I tend to get very excited whenever I see a cat as I'm exploring a new city. Needless to say, walking around Old San Juan was a very exciting experience for me! It seems to be the custom there to leave big bowls of cat food lying around for our four-legged friends. As a result, you'll see plenty of very healthy stray cats in the streets of Old San Juan. There was one small street especially (calle del hospital) where we saw a dozen of cats lying around in the shade. Some don't mind being petted, and they definitely don't mind getting their picture taken!
Packing List

Bring nothing except your camera and you teeth brush.
Here you can find everything you can buy in states; it is like another US state. light dress and swimming dress. Lot of beaches on East and West coast. it is sometimes difficult to find an accomodation in the east coast. it is easier on north and west side.
Pretty Pussy Cat

El Morro is Puerto Rico's best known fortress. Spanish troops fortified this 'morro'. which means 'promontory', to keep sea-borne enemies out of San Juan. Today this dramatic castle welcomes multitudes of arriving cruise ships and aircraft to the busiest port in the Caribbean. Over two million visitors a year explore theme windswept ramparts and pageways, where the history of 400 years of Spain in Puerto Rico comes alive.
Now if your into animals, take a walk down along the side of El Morro by the water. There is no SPCA (animal control) Cats are every where. They stand waiting for food, looking emaciated!
