Intercontinental Hotel, near airport in San Jaun
by wrld

It's closer to the airport than the cruise docks, I would find it more convenient to stay near Old San Juan but a lot of those hotels do not allow for 1 night stays. Just understand that if you want to tour San Juan during the day before the cruise leaves you'll have to take a taxi to OSJ, take a taxi back to the hotel to pick up your luggage and then another taxi to the cruise docks. The cruise line we took didn't have luggage check in until later in the afternoon.

The Sheraton Old San Juan is right across the street from the docks and right in the middle of OSJ. may be worth checking pricing.
Travel Tips for San Juan
What's a little rain?
by JKMathieson
Although it rained everyday when I was in Puerto Rico, my friends and I didn't let that stop us from exploring. Of course everyone says to see El Yunque, the rain forest, and we did and it was great but there were other interesting items as well.
Surfing or just hanging on the beach in Jobos was great. It wasn't raining as hard on that side of the island and the drive from San Juan to Jobos was pretty.
Isla Verde has a nice beach and it wasn't crowded at all when we were there. The water was warm and there were a lot of seashells on the beach.
Old San Juan has the best architecture by far. The colonial buildings are beautiful and the cobblestone streets fun to walk through.
Having a variety of plans allowed us to mix and match the activity with the forecast each day which worked really well. The best thing about PR was the food. The rice and beans were fantastic everywhere I ate them and the food on the beach was heavenly. All the people were really friendly as well.
The worst thing about PR is the driving. The rules simply don't apply in PR. I see why the rental car companies suggest getting the insurance.

Go to El Yunque. We drove from San Juan for about 1 hour to get there but it's well worth it. It's the 2nd Rainforest I've been in and it's the nicest. It's run by the US Forest Service. You can go hiking up and down the mountains. You can go right into the clouds. If you can spare a couple hours take the hike to Mina Falls. It's rough but once you're there you can stand under the waterfalls and jump into the lagoon. It's cold...
Roaming Roosters & Chickens
by cjg1
What is going on with the roaming roosters and chickens and why would I want to pay to have my picture with them? This is an odd thing and I don't understand it...but there were people wanting to touch the birds and take picturesd with them.
Packing List
by Sovman_PR
A medium sized suitcase and a comfortable backpack to carry your camera, water (don't forget the water when walking in San Juan during the summer,) chapstick, any travel guides you might have and other things you might need to protect against the sun. I'd recommend of course bringing sun glasses or any sort of hat to shield you from the Sun. The weather here is warm year round so bring pleanty of cool clothes but don't forget to bring an umbrella and a sweater; it can get cool some nights, you'll need it if you are going to the interior of PR and when you get here you will see that Puerto Ricans love Air Conditioning which is why some restaurants or stores may be much cooler than outside... Be sure to bring or purchase plenty of sun screen when coming to San Juan, especially if you are coming from a temperate country and haven't catched sun rays in a while. Any type of camera should be alright, you may want to bring backup batteries for your camera if it uses the special kind of batteries.
Visit the Colonial Cats on the Paseo del Morro
by saveagato
It is a large colony of cats living along the shore in the rocks. They have been sterilized and vaccinated by a local group named Save A Gato.
They are fed once a day by their volunteers and it is quite an attraction to see them coming to eat . They are healthy and beautiful. They are the equivalent of the Roman Cats.
They will steal your hearts and make for some great pix.
