More about Coqui del Mar

Laid Back & Convenient

by TripAdvisor Member travelnpair

Just got back from Puerto Rico and had a nice stay at Coqui del Mar. Although a little difficult to find at first, this apartment proved to be a nice place to relax in while exploring San Juan and nearby attractions on the east coast.

Convenient to many local restaurants and grocery stores on Isla Verde, and also a fantastic local bakery just down the street in Ocean Park.

The management is especially friendly and helpful, and willing to help you in anyway to make your stay comfortable.

Thank you!

Close to the Beach

We had a wonderful expeience at Coqui Del Mar. We stayed two nights and it was very spacious and clean. It's less than a five minute walk to a beautiful beach and within walking distance of several restaurants and a grocery store.

We were warned to stay close to the beach since the area very close to the beach we were told is the projects and a high crime area. We felt very secure as there were gates and fences everywhere and the other homes on the street are well taken care of. While the beach had many people on it during the weekend it was not crowded and we saw police officers pass either on motorcycle, horse, scooter or helicopter every few minutes.

Overall it was a great value and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Perfect for a budget minded getaway

I just got back from the Coqui del Mar, and I have to say that I'm nothing but impressed. The property managers, Neal and Noyda are fantastic (it rained one day, and Noyda gave me a stack of movies to watch to pass the time). I stayed in the smalled studio, and it was perfect for me (or for a couple). The rooms are simply furnished, the beds are comfortable, and all of the appliances and electronics work. It is a 1/2 hour bus ride to old san juan, and 15 minute bus ride to Condado or Isla verde, but the BEACH is only a 5 minute walk away.

All in all,if you're looking to stay somewhere that's a little out of the tourist area, or you'll be staying in san juan for an extended stay, this is place is perfect, Highly recommended!

prefect place to stay in San Juan

by TripAdvisor Member flowz

we LOVED staying at Coqui del Mar!! We miss it soo much, it had everything we could've asked for and more. Neal and Noyda are the sweetest and nicest landlords ever! It is only a walk or a bike ride to the beach and restaurants ( they provide 2 bikes) which was very helpful. It was also close to the bus stop if you don't want to rent a car. Bottom line, Coqui del Mar is the best place to stay in Puerto Rico!

Close to everything

We loved this place. We rented the studio for myself, husband, 2 year old daughter and 19 year old sister. There was more than enough room for us. They even brought in a fold up cot for my sister.
It was right in the middle of everywhere. My husband is from PR but moved away over 10 years ago and he was able to find his way easily from this location. We were able to buy groceries form a store with in walking distance to save a little money on meals with the kitchen in the room.
Old San Juan is just a bus ride away. If it wasn't for the fact that we had to travel to meet family and friends we would have had no need for a car.
Will stay here again and refer everyone to it!

Great stay on a budget

Very nice, clean, close to the beach villa. I would recommend staying at Coqui del Mar for any amount of time whether for a vacation or business purposes. Wireless internet was fast and ipod docks were very convienent and made business easy while on vacation. Onsite staff were bilingual and extremely friendly. Easy access to downtown area and the beach. I will be staying here every time I return to Puerto Rico.

A great deal

Our decision to stay at Coqui del Mar was very last-minute and our trip was very short (two days), but we are SO happy we decided to stay here. We stayed in El Pescado. The kitchen/living area was extremely clean, and the appliances, silverware, dishes, etc. looked like they had never even been used. There was a big flat-screen that was very easy to use, and even some movies available for our use. There was a futon and a couch and the place could have easily slept 5 people. The bedroom was also very clean; there were plenty of beach and bath towels and the linens were nice. Although air conditioning was available and we did use it at night, the Coqui is very eco-conscious and has fans in every room. The bathroom was also clean and the hot water is all solar-heated, which was very cool.

The man who owns the guest houses, Daniel, is extremely accessible and helpful and was able to book us in a very short period of time. Noyda, the woman who manages the place and lives on site, is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive. Her husband, Neal, helped us immediately when we needed to change our stove's propane tank.

The Coqui was perfect for us because we are independent travelers on a budget (the kitchen allows you to cook, and the location is convenient for public transportation). It's easy to walk to the touristy beaches if you don't mind walking a ways, and we did do that, but there is also a perfectly fine beach 5 minutes away if you just want to jump in the ocean or lay out for a couple hours. Old San Juan is pretty close and the bus will take you there for free, but be prepared because the bus can take awhile to come sometimes.

Above all, I was struck by the thought that goes into caring for the guest houses. The place is immaculate and things like appliances, linens, and furniture are all really new and high-quality. If you appreciate those details, and want to stay in a place that feels like your own and is off the beaten path, then I highly recommend the Coqui del Mar.

comfortable and well situated

Coqui del Mar are condos on a small private street near the sea in San Juan. Just a few minutes from the airport, although arriving late at night, I found the taxi driver was not really familiar with the location. He found the general spot and fortunately I had the driving directions the property provides and got him the last few steps of the way. Coming in late at night, I had a little problem using their safe box lock system. They provide a code for your key, but it did not work. Fortunately, I was able to wake the caretaker in the apartment above, and got in ok. I only was staying over for the night before flying on to Isla de Vieques, and booked the room at the last minute. It was very comfortable, a little more than I usually pay, but a quiet street, with a wonderful breeze coming through the windows. No A/C was necessary- although I think it was available if needed. If I had stayed longer, I would have enjoyed even more the spacious living room and kitchen. I had the larger unit on the bottom floor, which has additional rooms that are closed off for one person, but can be opened up for larger groups. As I was waiting for my taxi on departure, I was allowed to stay in the comfort of the patio and using the bathroom if I needed past the normal checkout, and they opened up these extra rooms for a larger group coming, which looked very nice , just like the rest of the apartment. The couple managing the condos was very helpful, giving me tips on a good place to eat nearby (Luca's or deLuca's , I've added some photos here of that restaurant, very friendly), and use of their cell phone to double check on my taxi. The condo is a short walk from the beach, although I did not see anyone on that stretch of beach the short time I was there, except for a few fishermen. It is really a nice area and I think it would have been enjoyable to stay there longer. It is exactly like having your own apartment and for an extended stay would be very comfortable. The price is very reasonable compared to anything comparable, and better than any hotel rooms of that size and number. Of course, with your own kitchen, you can cook as desired. I made all my arrangements via email with the proprietor. it is managed by a couple who are friends with the owner and live on the property. There was good communication on all the reservations and everything at the condo. The only snag was the lock box, but since they knew I was coming, that was only temporary.

A hidden treasure..............

I just returned from a enchanting week in Puerto Rico. And I must say, the Coqui Del Mar was excellent. If you want to feel the real PR. And live amongest it's people. This is the place for you. I stayed in the large studio for the week. And had all the amenites of a hotel. Without the unpersonal service of a hotel. I felt like I was living there.
Also, the location is superb. Great clean beaches await you. Only a half-a-block from apartments. And I had them mostly to myself. The bus (pravda) to Old San Juan is real close by. And very much worth the trip. Supermarket and great resturants are also close bye.
I also must say the property mangers Noyda and Neal. Make you feel very welcome and at home. And they are around if need be.
I will be returning in the future. joe

Great Place and Great Price!

Coqui del mar is a great place to stay, if your looking for something economical and close to everything! The place is immaculate and has a ton of character and charm. They are also eco-friendly. Neal and Noyda (the condo managers) were more than helpful everyday! We called them for everything...directions, borrow umbrella's, activity recommendations, etc. We stayed in the 1 bedroom. There were 4 of us, and it was plently of room. We pretty much walked everywhere and the bus stop is 2 blocks away. The neighborhood was very nice and is in a gated area. There are a ton of great resturants within walking distance. The full kitchen was great and helped save a ton of money. We would stay hear again in a heartbeat! Thanks again to Neal and Noyda, they helped is a lot!
