We did not stay here - we just saw it driving by. I thought it was interesting looking.

Would not return.

This hotel has a lot of unfinished details that make it an uncomfortable stay. We heard loud banging sounds (pipes?) at random times throughout the day and night. Our friends stayed in 2 other rooms: one room smelled like sewage. None of the rooms had all the details (e.g., paint, bathroom renovation, mirrors) complete. Continental breakfast was poor and exorbitantly priced. Concierge service was terrible: we never received the welcome package for the wedding we attended until we asked everyone at the hotel about it for 2 days. There were loud dance parties every night until midnight - 1pm. Front desk staff appeared not to care about their customers and sometimes were altogether absent. The only good thing about this hotel was the cleaning staff: they did an excellent job.

Great Boutique Hotel!

Considered one of the best examples of Art Deco architecture in San Juan, the Normandie Hotel has spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. The hotel is decorated in a calming color palette with accents of ocean blue, reflecting the view beyond. Rooms are large and also well decorated and guests can relax in the sun room, swim in the outdoor pool, work out in the fitness center and pamper themselves with a treatment in the Ocean View Spa. Cru, the on-site Italian restaurant, features fusion cuisine of seafood and Italian classics. The Atrium Coffee Bar serves light meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and N-Lounge serves a wide selection of appetizers and refreshing beverages in a very trendy atmosphere.

With reasonable prices and a great atmosphere, this hotel comes highly reccomended for those spending a couple nights in San Juan. The hotel is also walking distance to Old San Juan.

Unique Quality: The N-Lounge is very cool - overlooking the ocean

Noisy

We checked in on a Thursday after traveling all day. We were tired and looking forward to a relaxing evening and getting some sleep. We were surprised to find out that the hotel was hosting a party in the atrium right ouside our door. They played disco and club music so loud the walls shook. We could not hear our tv or even talk to eachother let alone get any sleep. When I went to complain at the front desk they offered me ear plugs. When I asked how they could be so inconsiderate of their guests the manager just kept saying "I understand". The party lasted till 1:00 in the morning and the music only got louder and louder as the night went on.

Unique Quality: The hotel is old and quirky. The room layout wastes a lot of space and our view was of the parking lot. The pool is okay but I expected much more for the money we spent.

We stayed at the Normandie...

We stayed at the Normandie which may not be for everyone. It is an elegant older hotel with nice amenities but rather formal and low key. The pool was nice but the ocean did not look very inviting-almost dirty. It may have been the time because most people were in and having a great time searching for some sea horses that wer around the area.
Ours was not too expensive because it was a deal which I think you can find if you look.

More about Normandie Hotel

Fair Value, Location ???

by TripAdvisor Member infoseek123

The hotel is decent, the rooms are fair, don't expect much. It is located right next to the Hilton, and you can walk to the Hilton in no tiime.
There are no restuarants besides the ones at these two hotels which are all a bit pricey. You have to walk about a mile or so to get to a non-hotel restaurants.
If you want to Jog, there is a small track behind the hotel to your left. The hotel gym is there for name sake and it just as big as probably your bathroom.
You can take the bus from a few blocks away, very cheap 25 cents, yes, in June 2004, it was 25 cents/person to Old San Juan/anywhere the bus goes. It takes about 15 minutes.
It might be a good place to stay for two or so nights, I couldn't stay here for more than that. Condodo is another alternative, much more choices as far as food is concerned and you can walk to that area from here, it is 15 minutes away, about 1 mile.
Opposite side from Condodo, If you walk towards the stadium, go behind the stadium through the parking lot, and make a right when you get to the main street and walk another 1/2 mile, there is a KFC there and a few local restuarants.
You feel safe and this is a U.S. territory. Please email me if you have detailed questions.

not too bad not too good.

i was very hesistant to book the normandie bc of all the mixed reviews but went ahead with it anyway. the normandie is a nice hotel. plain, simple and considerably clean. the staff was pleasant, the concierge was very helpful and all in all it was a good stay. the downside is that the beach and pool area are definitely not the greatest. a little deceiving to be honest...the pool overlooks a PUBLIC beach which is filthy and crowded. the hilton next door has the private beach, (what you see from your room).
location wise, the hotel is situated 1.5 miles from old san juan, bit of a walk but its do-able and pretty. isla verde, which is where we went to the beach, is a $16 cab ride and about 8 minutes from the hotel.
if you're just looking for a clean, pleasant place to sleep..then the Normandie is great.
if you're looking for a resort type hotel, try again.
