More about Posada Colonial

Great Value!

by TripAdvisor Member VigilColorado

Nice and clean. Great value. Loved the owners. Great people! I think one of the best things they do is pick you up and drop you off. That's a great "marketing" tool. Because getting to and from the place you are staying is such a hassle if it's your first time to the area.

The only problem we had when staying there is that the neighborhood is rather noisy with late night parties.

Wonderful haven in Caribbean

by TripAdvisor Member meghana316

We had a wonderful time at this colonial gem near the Condado beach in San Juan. The rides to and from the airport were an added treat -- we got to know our hostess, and it made arrival into a foreign place very comfortable! We stayed in the back 1 bdrm, it was very clean and beautiful. It was nice to have a full kitchen and windows to let in the ocean breeze. Everything was very accessible by walking or bus. We'd definitely recommend it, it was such a lovely place to relax and enjoy our vacation!

Welcoming local lovely place to stay

by TripAdvisor Member girlh2o

My boyfriend and I found our accommodations on Craigslist and were drawn in by the environmental values, the fact that it was locally owned and in a neighborhood setting and the aesthetic appeal via photos. We were pleased and then some. Christianne came across as genuinely personable and generous as well as knowledgeable and joyful. She picked us up from the airport, gave a tour of the immediate area, allowed us to use her laptop, recommended eats and drove us to the rental car place. The apartment we found simple, tasteful, clean, creative and comfortable.
And amazingly affordable. I think it was actually the least expensive place we stayed besides camping...and our favorite.
Thank you!

A Wonderful Experience

by TripAdvisor Member Familytravlr

We are so fortunate to have chosen Posada Colonial as a place to stay for our first visit to San Juan. Christiane is so helpful. We felt like we had a new friend we could count on for help. But we had a great time venturing into Old San Juan by ourselves on the bus which was very convenient (make sure you have some quarters, they don't take bills). The feel of the apartment was great; large and airy windows with beautiful flowers at every view. There is a large grocery that has some ready made deli type foods a few blocks away. We made some simple meals too. Bebos restaurant is also close and inexpensive, try the mofongo dishes. The place seems to be always busy, a sign of a good restaurant.
This is a place to stay for an independent travelers but also for someone who likes to meet new people and experience a slice of San Juan lifestyle. We certainly are looking forward to a return stay.

Eco-friendly, charming lodging & lovely hosts

by TripAdvisor Member Gaia_lovers

My beloved and I were very pleased with the lodging and with our hosts. The building is charming, and its management is dramatically more responsible than any of the large-scale multinational hotels: they recycle, use eco-friendly cleaning products, have energy-conserving light fixtures, and it is a locally owned family business... not to mention that it is two and a half blocks from the beach and Viejo San Juan is a short bus-ride away!

Christiane was helpful, generous, and very kind. She also speaks excellent English (for those who are concerned). We would recommend taking advantage of the offer for pick-up from the airport. My partner and I are quite skilled with maps, but many streets are not well marked and certain neighborhoods (if you're not accustomed to it) can be intimidating at night.

We have stayed at other Craig's listings in the San Juan area, and this has been the best overall: safe, comfortable, and affordable, especially given what they offer and what you support.

Lovely place!

by TripAdvisor Member Commander-in-Cheap

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights at the first floor back room. The place is very clean and cozy. The host, Christiane, is very nice and friendly. She drove us to and from the airport and showed us around. She also recommended some good restaurant closed by We tried a couple of those restaurant. The food was pretty good and the price is very reasonable.

The location is very convenient. Beach is just a few minutes walk. Bus stop (bus # A5) is just one minute walk away from the apartment. You can take A5 bus to the New San Juan and the Old San Juan for $0.75 each trip. However, if you'd like to explore more places in PR, you might want to rent a car. Christiane suggested to rent a car from Charlie's car rental as it's very reasonable price. We rented it on the 2nd and 3rd day of the trip. We got a pretty good rate of only $25 a day. We drove to the Rain Forest and some very remote beaches, lagoons and some very old small towns (looks like the towns hasn't been changed since the '60s....very nice!). Those beaches and lagoons are so pristine and beautiful. We were very lucky to drive on some very small local roads and found them by accident.

Overall...My husband and I love Posada Colonial. It's like home away from home! We highly recommend it to anyone.

Hidden Gem

by TripAdvisor Member akajake

Posada Colonial is a quaint 3 unit apartment rental located in a traditional Puerto Rican neighborhood. Because it is in a neighborhood you will hear street noise so be prepred not surprised. The friendly, helpful proprietor lives in the building. We did not take advantage of the free airport pick up/drop off service which is offered. We parked on the street in front of the building and always found a parking place. This is a relatively new establishment and Christiane is working diligently to make improvements for the comfort of her guests. Our apartment was clean but sparsely furnished. Sparse furnishings seen to be a Puerto Rican standard. If you want luxury stay at the Ritz in Isla Verde and pay those prices. We found the beach quiet and restful. Bring your own snacks and drinks to the beach. We either walked or took our rented car everywhere so I cannot comment on buses or other means of transportation. For $30 PP a day you can obtain a day pass to use the pool/beach facilities at The Marriott. We would definately stay here again.

The Real Feel of Puerto Rico!!

by TripAdvisor Member kio607

On a recent trip we stayed at Posada Colonial and could not have been happier. Our host Christiane was very helpful and very hospitable. She had shown us the ways to get around the greater San Juan area without spending an arm and a leg.
it is very hot/humid in San Juan and you would not notice much at Posada Colonial due to the breezes that blow through. Forget the high priced hotels you are close to everything a beautiful beach, many places to eat and shop and a short distance to Isla Verde and old San Juan. If you really want to get a feel of Puerto Rico then I suggest you stay here.

GREAT Place to Stay!

by TripAdvisor Member SCBlossom

This is a great place to stay! Besides the price, the transportation to and from the airport, the location is great and the owners are WONDERFUL! They went out of their way to assist everyone staying there in every way. They were at the airport upon arrival and were always available for questions and to assist in helping us locate anything we needed.

There is a beautiful beach access a 1 1/2 blocks away and it is on a bus line that runs from Isla Verde (Ritz Carlton Hotel) all the way to Old San Juan for only 75 cents! Great restaurants and shopping are within walking distance or a short bus ride. A huge supermarket with pharmacy, bakery and deli can be found about a 3 block walk down Calle Loiza at Calle de Deigo and just around the corner is a very small corner store for grabbing a bottle of juice or a bag of chips.

The apartment is located on a small street in a residential area. It was very quiet when we stayed there. We had the one bedroom studio located in the back with a private patio area that was tastefully decorated with tropical potted plants and a table with two chairs.

The apartment was spotlessly clean and secure. It has a ceiling fan in the kitchen seating area as well as in the bedroom. The bedroom has a remote controlled window unit up high so it is not blowing directly on you. There is ample ventilation so you may never need the air conditioner! The shower was huge. A washer and dryer were available but we never used them. The kitchen was well equipped and previous guests had left behind some spices and coffee. Board games were provided in the closet. Linens (including beach towels) are provided. They ask you recycle anything that is recyclable.

I would definitely stay there again.
