Ocean View Hotel: alternate choice

by beachbabie

I live in Vieques...if you want an inexpensive hotel near the ferry dock to wallk to...book Casa de Amistad NOT Ocean View Hotel. MUCH MUCH nicer place to stay , has a dip pool which sparkles, and great staff at reaonable rates.

Great Escape Bed & Breakfast Inn: Wonderful Accomodations Slightly off the Beaten Pa

by tfulle01

Being located on one of the southern hilltops gives Great Escapes a breazy feel and Pretty views which contrasts the occasional days of high humidity and mugginess that can be encountered down on the coastline. The slight climate difference and different soils that the coast have allowed the proprietor and fulltime hostess, Dana, and her wonderful assistant, the opportunity to cultivate beautiful gardens with incredible diversity.

During my last stay en Viegues I was a little dissapointed that our accomodations wouldn't be right on the beach, but upon arrival all that changed. With the Navy having vacated the island in 2003 numerous beaches have been opened up for public use. You will want to travel to a different one every day, so staying directly on the beach doesn't offer much of an advantage.

Casa Alta Vista: Beach-Bums Club

by eduar68

Vieques is not stilish or cute. This is Jimmy Buffet and Beach Boys country. Therefore accomodations in Vieques fall into two categories either little inns who tried to evolve into little boutique hotels or just places to crash. The latter are normally less expensive and cater usually to the young and budget oriented kind. Casa Alta Vista falls into this category. No, it will not win a decoration contest. There is no elevators, no restaurant and virtually no front desk after 5.00 or 6.00 PM. On the other side, Mark, the owner, and Rick, who works at the front desk/convenience store give us 110% to make our stay enjoyable. They booked us for a last moment tour of the Bio-Bay and find us a rental car (a rare commodity in Vieques without a reservation!!). They regularly greeted us and were interested about how the trip was turning out for us. The roof deck allows you to enjoy a sky incredibly full of stars.

Hector's By The Sea: Vieques Heaven

by jag17

Hector and Mary built/own/operate a beautiful guesthouse in Vieques. 3 large studio type units available for rent; on 2 acres of land. Wake up to see the horses roam by your window. Enjoy morning coffee on the porch in the hammock. Pool/hottub also available on the grounds. They were the perfect host/hostess, and make sure you have everything you need to be comfortable. Ask Hector to make you his famous "Hectorini". We were very sad to leave this little piece of heaven.

Tradewinds: Relaxation at its finest

by TRAVELGIRLUSA

I have stayed here 3 times-----the last visit to Vieques we took our kids ( 1 & 5 at the time) and my mother so we rented a house to respect the other guests. However, this is a small guest house on the ocean which serves casual breakfast and lunch then a more formal dinner ( a nice polo shirt or a casual summer dress or capri's is the most formal you ever need to be on this island). The highlight of this inn is Tully------the bartender. If you go tell him Laura annd Joe from Indiana send greetings. We have become buddies to the point of exchanging Christmas cards. I am guessing he probably has to work overtime to send ouut his cards each year because he has many friends as he charms everyone. This island is a fabulous place to escape the stresses of daily life, lay on the beach (you can find your own private beach if you just look) drink fruity beverages, and find out from Tully where the gringo's are hanging out that night (there is a circuit).

Ocean front, casual, amazing views, the best damn bartender in the world!

Wyndham Martineau Bay Resort & Spa: Glad we stayed there our first visit to Vieques!

by emeseye

If I hadn't been able to get such a great rate for an oceanfront room, I might have thought it wasn't worth the expense. Food and drinks were quite expensive and basically nothing to do except small fitness center, pricey and limited spa, pool and a couple of small beaches. The pool bar closed at 6 p.m. so no poolside nightlife. The little time we spent there was exercising, sleeping, reading or taking pictures. Since it was our first time to the island, it was nice to come back to a "gated" complex where we felt quite safe, but when we return to Vieques (and we definitely plan to) we will be staying at a local guest house like The Crow's Nest or The TradeWinds. A seasoned traveler would probably find this hotel unnecessary and way overpriced.

Our room was pleasant, bed quite comfortable, reasonably clean, good view. Be sure to register with Wyndham ByRequest "before" making reservations.

Ababor Suites: Vieques's Best Kept Secret

by rudocp

New accomodations located beachfront in Vieques.

Second Floor unit has great views. You can see Puerto Rico, Culebra and St. Thomas from the deck. There is only one other house on the beachfront in this area which means the beach is deserted except for YOU! Wild Ponies often are seen on the beach frolicking in the water. We also saw numerous rainbows including a double rainbow while there. Owners are very nice and have thought about everything that you could possibly need.
