More about East Wind Inn

Small is beautiful

by maartenw about East Winds Inn

To say that we were not disappointed would be an understatement. All our stays (December 2003 and 2004, July 2006) were outstanding, couldn't be better. We've chosen East Winds Inn for its unique combination of small scale and quality. Service is immaculate. Staff is very friendly. Guests are almost exclusively Europeans, of which about 80% British. East Winds Inn is the ideal resort if you are into small scale luxury accomodations. This all inclusive resort has it all (except crowds). Just 26 little residences laid out in a spacious and private way in a beautiful well kept lush garden. The resort is right at a quiet well equipped romantic beach. Within reach are a tiny but gorgeous snorkel reef, swimming pool, several bars, leisure facilities. The restaurant is simply superb. The French chef combines his native haute cuisine with the traditional Creole kitchen. Not to mention the wines, daily champagne, BBQ's, the sound of the birds at sunrise, ..... Expensive, but worth every penny.

EDIT: In the 2008 Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice Awards, East Winds Inn scored a rank #5 in all-inclusive hotels worldwide! (It is ranked at place 28 in the top 100 overall list for best luxury hotels worldwide and at #5 for best luxury hotel in Latin America/Caribbean.)

East Winds is fabulous!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Our week at East Winds was one of the best of our lives. It was beautiful; the staff were friendly; the food was delicious and there was plenty to do.

Our room was very nice, with plenty of space and a nice bathroom. All the rooms are set in little bungalows dotted around the lovely, lush gardens. Be warned: there is no air conditioning in the rooms - it wasn't a problem for us, but you might get hot if you come in summer.

The pool is excellent, with a self-service swim-up bar. The beach is also beautiful, and snorkelling equipment, aqua boards, pedalos and kayaks are all provided. There is also a ping-pong table; boules court; beach volleyball court and shuffleboard court, as well as a club house with books and board games.

The food is delicious, and there are always vegitarian options. Breakfast and lunch are buffets, while dinner is a more formal, sit-down, four course affair, apart from on barbeque nights. There is live music every night, and once a week, a champagne cocktail party preceeds dinner.

The East Winds Inn is a very special hotel, and St. Lucia is a very special island- be sure to see some of it while you're there.

East Winds saved my honeymoon!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We booked originally The Jalousie Plantation for our honeymoon in October 2005. We were so dissapointed with this hotel, especially as Virgin rated it as a 5* Platinum range. We were moved to East Winds Inn after spending 3 days in the Plantation and what a breath of fresh air! The manager Gareth waited for us to personally greet us and throughout our stay everything had the personal touch, no-one could do enough for you.
This generally wouldn't have been our choice in Hotel, however, it clearly proved us wrong. What you must understand about St Lucia is that everything is laid back and should be an entirely relaxation holiday. The East Winds was blisfully quiet and myself and my husband are under 30 and still enjoyed the tranquility and peace. There was evening entertainment whilst you were eating and generally the bar shut at 11pm.
If you enjoy a lively holiday then St Lucia is not for you, however, if you want a quiet relaxing holiday you could not choose a better place to enjoy the holiday by choosing the East Winds. The food was at a high standard and there will always be food your not keen on, however, there was always enough selection to ensure that there would be something you like. The only down side to the hotel is that there was no air con in the room, however, this is a minor downside when comparing the quality of the rest of the hotel. I would like to personally thank East Winds for saving my honeymoon and really showing us what carribean life should be like!!
Oh and take light trousers! My husband forgot and we had to buy some as smart dress in the evening!

relaxing in St. Lucia

by TripAdvisor Member Hendrika

It's an hours drive from the airport, but some guests were flown in by helcopter. East Winds Inn is elegant, relaxing and the food and wine cellar are great. Fishermen bring their catch in the morning, so that the Chef can make his choice.
People are very friendly, but in a more reserved way compared to Barbados and Aruba. I think the E.W.I. is more suitable for couples.
If the Italian owner and his wife have guests, they insist that everyone speaks english, so that the hotel guests know what they are talking about.
Remember to bring smart clothes for the evenings.
English Guests ignored us in the beginning, thinking we were from Germany. When I told my father was trained in the english army, everything was more than o.k.
We did not miss the air co, because of the good flow of wind through the cottage and the ceiling fan.
To avoid insect-bites (did not have any) we used thiamine (B1) 100 mg. twice daily.
We rented a car to explore the island. One day we had lunch in the Dasheen Restaurant in the Ladera Resort. Be early and enjoy the vieuw of Jalousie Bay and the Pitons.

We wish everyone a great time in St. Lucia.

The perfect setting for relaxation

by TripAdvisor Member Emma-Lou-Dyer

Myself, my fiance and my parents have just returned from a week at the East Winds Inn and we had a fantastic time. I am only 21 yet I found this place just as beautiful as my parents did. The setting is very secluded, very romantic and very peaceful and I will definately be returning in the future! The rooms are unusual in comparison to other villa type accomodation I have stayed in and is very spacious, clean and nicely decorated. Luckily for us although the day we arrived it was pouring with rain, we had no more for the rest of our stay, lucky for us, not so lucky for the poor people who had been there the previous week where it had rained most days!!! The surroundings are very well kept and the staff were fabulous. They were friendly, they remebered your name and they showed a personal touch, always remembering how you take your tea/coffee and what you have for breakfast. Although there are no late nights (the bar closes at 11) this ensures a nice peaceful nights sleep, something not guaranteed in many resorts. The food was amazing, with a lovely variety and so much choice for those a little fussy like myself. I tried so many different dishes whilst staying there, including the lobster, who can say they have that included in there all inclusive deals??? For five evenings out of seven we had entertainment providing you with some of the local culture without disturbing your meal, it was just lovely. Overall a fantastic holiday, the fact I got engaged was a lovely touch and I would recommend this to anyone wanting some time out without the hustle and bustle of any lively resorts. We'll be back!

Wonderful Holiday

by A TripAdvisor Member

My partner and I have just returned from a 10 day holiday at the East Winds and it was far better than expected. Don't be put off by the rough road leading to the hotel, it only adds to the charm and there is a pleasent surprise at the end! The staff are smilling and friendly, can be over attentive but with such heat you are not wanting food in front of you for any length of time. Having travelled to many hotel and restaurants the variety and quality of food was excellent. Very nice choice of wines each evening and breakfast and lunch is everything you could hope for, we had a BBQ with fresh salads and fruit every other day for lunch. The little huts are really quaint and clean. They are well furnished and cool eneough with the fan cranked up - frogs a tad loud though!

I would reccomend East Winds to anyone wanting a homely, quiet and friendly atmosphere away from larger resorts.

One other thing, if you go I would recommend taking adavantage of the dine out option one night (the Coal Pot for Lonbster), its a nice change and all is arranged by East Winds.

A lovely place.

So Peaceful

by TripAdvisor Member Doffy

We have just got back from our Honeymoon at East Winds. We had a really lovely time, they upgraded us to a Deluxe cottage which was really nice, the bed was the most comfortable i have ever slept in and the shower was out of this world. The patio area out front was lovely to sit on and enjoy a rum and coke from the complimentery mini bar.
Pool area was amazing, set in beautiful gardens and it had its own help yourself swim up bar which was a really nice touch. Food on the whole was wonderful we really enjoyed the BBq's, however some times dinner was a little bit too fancy for us eg one night it was smoked lamb, we would of prefered lamb chops. Hope you have an appetite, dinner was four courses.
Staff throughout the whole hotel was really nice, waiting staff and bar staff were all so helpful and couldn't do enough for you. Grounds staff were all very pleasant and always had a nice greeting for you.
Overall we had a lovely time, really relaxing however the hotel was really quiet, on our last night there was only 10 of us, which was nice because you were treated amazingly, but we were sometimes the last couple up and this was only 10pm.
But if you are looking for somewhere to relax, lay in the sun and enjoy good food and drinks then this is the place for you

Superb East Winds

by A TripAdvisor Member

Hotel for grown ups who need a relaxing holiday.
30 large cottages in 8 acres of gardens. Briefly: Superb location; good accommodation; fantastic food and wine (as much champagne as you can drink); staff friendly and obliging. Do not go here if you want lots of nightlife, organised entertainment or fast food. 5* holiday - we shall definitely return. In our opinion one of the best hotels on St. Lucia. Bliss.

St Lucia - a true paradise

by maartenw

Just 22 km wide and 44 km long, but Saint Lucia has it all. The delightful Caribbean climate, excellent beaches, friendly people, unspoilt nature, superb food, stunning views, an interesting turbulent history and more. It also has just the right size to explore in one holiday. Warning: once you've tasted St. Lucia, you definitely want to return!
