More about Nature's Paradise
Just Like Nature Intended
Wow, we are so glad we stayed at Natures Paradise for our trip at St. Lucia. It was a wonderful experience and a great place to start to explore the island. The location couldn't be better. Away from the huslte and bustle, nestled up in a ridge overlooking the Carribean Sea surrounded by a mini rainforest with spectacular views all around. If you feel you need to explore the island, not a problem, most places are only a short drive away. Either up north to Castries, Rodney Bay, Pigeon Island. Or down south to Soufriere and of course the Pitons.
The cottage we stayed in was in immaculate condition. Very roomy and comfortable. With a full kitchen and stocked fridge. The bathroom was spacious, probably bigger than most NYC studio apts.
Of course, the hosts Dave and Wanda were a major part of what made the trip so enjoyable. They will do everything to ensure your needs are met, your questions answered, and clear any confusions you might have. And on top of that they provide a nice hearty breakfast of fresh fruits and bread daily to prepare you for the day ahead. When we were in doubt about what we should do for the day, we could always ask Nature Dave.
When we visit St. Lucia again. We will definitely be staying at Natures Paradise.
A Perfect Place....
My husband and I stayed at Nature's Paradise from August 4-11 for our honeymoon. The place that Dave and Wanda have is absolutely beautiful; there's so much lush vegetation surrounding their house and the cottages that you feel like you're in the middle of your own personal rain forest! They have a large swimming pool that is meticulously maintained and the views of the ocean and the country side from it are amazing!
We stayed in 'Avocado Cottage' and it was a very clean and comfortable (and it came with a full kitchenette, which was great for preparing snacks and light meals); it did get a little hot in there during the day (I've heard that August is the hottest month of the year in St. Lucia so I don't think this would be a problem the rest of the year) but thankfully Dave provided an extra fan for us to use (besides the ceiling fan) so we were always comfortable.
The breakfast we were served every morning was heavenly! My husband and I looked forward to it every morning! There was always plenty of fresh fruit, yogurt, cheese, and freshly baked breads! I miss it already!
Dave and Wanda were wonderful hosts and are genuinely nice people to talk to. My husband and I looked forward to seeing them each morning and enjoyed listening to Dave talk about his very interesting and eventful life; it was a great way to start to each day.
If you're looking for a beautiful setting with clean and comfortable accommodations coupled with a great breakfast and wonderful conversation each day then Nature's Paradise is definitely for you!
Thanks again Dave and Wanda for a wonderful time!
Melissa & Jason
P.S. The road up to Nature's Paradise is quite an adventure in itself (you'll definitely need to get a 4x4 vehicle), thankfully the place it so beautiful that you might want to spend all your time there and travel the road minimal number of times.
Oh my God!
This was an adventure I never could have had on my own. Nature's Paradise owners are so knowledgable about the island and all it has to offer. I never could have found the mineral springs, the little beaches, the Grand Pitons, the local market...The personal guided tours are not to be missed. Dave and Wanda are fun, friendly, energetic guides with class. Who else would think of drinks and appetizers at the Ladrea Resort after a day of hiking the streams, mountains or forests of St. Lucia. My visit to a local plantation where bananas, mangos, coconuts and tomatoes were presented to me by the owner, somewhat of a god like presence I must admit, was very educational and delicious.
The cabins are beautiful, relaxing and the views from the property are awesome.
Great continental breakfast.
The little town of Marigot bay has a great bar where visitors mingle with locals and local bands entertain in a garden setting. Dancing there was fun and romantic. Dont miss this spot if you are single. Nights by the pool are romantic too.
Honeymoon Adventure at NP
We recently went on our honeymoon at Nature's Paradise at the end of June. This is during the summertime of the year as well as the rainy season. It did rain while we were there, almost every day. However it did not inconvenience us too much during our stay, it was usually right in the middle of the day when you would want to relax in your cottage anyway. A couple of days we did have some downpours and we had to stay in.
One thing that we were very impressed with was the personal service that Dave and Wanda gave us. For most of our trip we were the only two staying at Nature's Paradise which made us feel like guests at Dave and Wanda's home. They made it their job to make sure we had a good time and had everything we needed. Breakfast, as everyone said, was delish, and make sure you try the mangos if you go during this time of year! They are the best you will ever eat!
The grounds of the place are beautiful, as is all of St. Lucia. Marigot Bay has 5 restaurants and a little beach and a scuba place. It was a lot smaller than we expected but it was great because it gave the feel of being alone all of the time. The scuba place is great! It was very personal as well and we had an amazing trip diving around Anse Chastanet and Devil's Hole. Lincoln is a great dive master, as well as the rest of the crew. They are fun and responsible and we felt comfortable diving with them.
IF YOU ARE UNDER 25 YEARS OLD...make sure you understand that you will not be able to rent a jeep like the previous reviewers said. We had that problem and it proved to be a little more expensive relying on taxis to get us around. Like the previous reviewers said the road up to Nature's Paradise is quite a crazy one, especially if it is rainy. We are young and in shape and thought it wouldnt be a problem to walk down to the bay and back up after dinner or a day at the beach but this proved more inconvenient than we had hoped. Although we were disappointed we could not get a car of our own Dave and Wanda made sure that we got everywhere we wanted to go, including Dave picking us up from dinner in the bay almost every night, taking us to town with them to go to the market (there is no supermarket in Marigot Bay for those of you who want to save money and make dinner in your kitchen), and arranging for a taxi with Anthony (a cool St. Lucian driver) where ever we wanted to go on the island.
***When you book your flights into and out of St Lucia make sure you try and book them for the afternoon. We flew into the southern airport, Hewannora, and it was a longer drive but a beautiful one!! We got to see a part of the island that we did not see the rest of the trip and it was a great start to our vacation. If you do this, just make sure it's light outside so you can see all the beauty of St Lucia as you drive. Castries airport is most convenient because it's only about 30 mins away from N.P. but doesn't have the same "scenic drive". We booked our flight out of Castries early in the morning, 6am, which proved to be a bad plan without a car of our own. It is hard to get a taxi that early in the morning. Despite planning ahead, we woke up to a thunderstorm, which makes any taxi getting to NP difficult. To his credit Dave was there to save the day (even at 4:30 am!!!!) and helped us get to our flight on time. We can't thank him enough for everything he did for us.
We had an amazing time on our honeymoon and it was a great adventure. We did not know what to expect from St. Lucia but when we got there we realized that there were so many amazing things to see and do that we had to take advantage of them. Although we did get some time to relax, we spent much of our time exploring St Lucia and all it has to offer.
Some things that we recommend:
-SCUBA diving, the water is pristine and there's Tons of beautiful fish and coral to see
- Snorkeling in the cove, just ask dave where it is
- Horseback riding in Rodney Bay at International Pony Club (they will pick you up from Marigot Bay if you call ahead, small fee applies). *Make sure you do the two hour ride that includes swimming with the horses!!* I am an experienced rider and my husband is not, but we both loved it.
- Soufriere Adventure with Dave - saw volcano, beautiful Soufriere botanical gardens, ate lunch at Ladera (beautiful views of Pitons) and went to relax in secluded hot springs (which were very romantic, just tell Dave if you want some alone time).
- Dolittles and Cafe Mygo for drinks or dinner (sometimes they have drink specials or dinner specials). Monday nights at Dolittles if a girl wears a flower in her hair and has a date she gets her dinner free. Pumpkin soup at Cafe Mygo is delicious!
- Pigeon Point is a cool place to see some historical sights and hike up to beautiful views.
- climbed Gros Piton. CAUTION to you who wish to climb Gros Piton. First of all it costs about $50 US for a guide (which you must have) for two people. The guide explained that the first part of the hike is "moderate" and then the last part is "strenuous". Make sure you are in shape for this. We thought it would not be too bad, and later found out that many people who start off the hike have to turn back because it is too tough. If you are not up for a 4-5 hour hike up a steep mountain then you should not do this. Also beware there is poison oak in the rainforest much to my husband's dismay. The mountain is covered by rainforest so you are hikinng through it. There is not much to see along the way and the guide we had did not like to stop often to give us a breather. However the view from the top is amazing, just know that it takes some work to get up there. Take LOTS of water with you!!!!!!!! And we heard afterwards that some of the guides will carry your packs for you, so take advantage of that.
Overall we had an amazing honeymoon in St. Lucia and are very glad that we chose Nature's Paradise. We have many great memories from that trip and look forward to going back soon.
We spent the last few days of our honeymoon at Nature's Paradise and it was a lovely end to our St. Lucia adventure.
The grounds of the place are beautiful and well tended, our rooms were very comfortable and slef contained. However, the thing that impressed us most were our hosts. Dave and Wanda are two exceptional people who went the extra mile to make us very comfortable. We felt more like guests at someone's home than any other place we have ever stayed at. Their warm personalities, interesting conversations, very helpful site-seeing tips and amazing tropical breakfast also added to our experience tremendously! They also took us to see this beautiful waterfall one morning, one of the highlights of our trip.
Thank you Dave and Wanda for a truly incredible experience.
Nature's Paradise, Marigot Bay
My partner and I visited St Lucia Sept 2006. apparently the rainy season. Yes there was rain, albeit sporadic and was over before you knew ! We stayed at Nature's Paradise in one of two cottages owned by Dave and Wanda Wallace. The cottage was wonderful to say the least and you would be hard pushed to find a better view from your accommodation in St Lucia, if indeed the Caribbean !! Dave ia a gracious host and has a wealth of knowledge which he is more than happy to share with you..... and not just about St Lucia. It is worth mentioning that although it is self catering breakfast is provided, which is a lovely touch. We recommend the rainforest ride, whilst not cheap is well worth the money. We hired a boat from Marigot Bay. Our captain was Shaid; the yacht was the Bateau Mygo and had a memorable sunset cruise. The Jalousie Estate is well worth a visit also for a lazy day on the beach , superb views of the Pitons and delicious food to boot; again not cheap but you're on holiday !!. We hired a jeep which was essential we would say for where we were staying unless you are keen, and we mean keen walkers. All in all we had a great holiday and we would have no hesitation in recommending Nature's Paradise to anyone that wants to taste the real St Lucia and not just a resort type holiday
"nature's paradise" eloquent in isolation
"Nature's Paradise" is located on a bluff surrounded on one
side by Marigot Bay and the other side a lush valley, the bluff
juts out into the ocean.
The property has several self sufficent cottages nestled high
above the entrance to Marigot Bay with panoramic views.
The layout of the property allows you the elegance of solitude
or 5 minutes down a winding steep road the commerce of
restuarants and shops of Marigot Bay.
"Natures Paradise" is lush with fauna.
What a view...
We stayed 4 nights at Nature's Paradise and it went by way too fast... The views from our cottage deck as well as the pool deck are just awesome. We watched sailboat's, cruise ships and sunsets come and go while sipping a glass of wine from either a lounge chair on our deck or while relaxing in the pool! All from about 1500' up on a mountain side. Nice, comfortable beds and the shower actually had some pressure and HOT water... 2 things not ofter found in smaller places like this. The road up was rather testing but after a couple of times it was a piece of cake. 5 nice restaurants down at Marigot Bay are right at the bottom of the road. Simple breakfast's are enhanced by great conversation from the host's David and Wanda. We would definitely stay here again should we return to St. Lucia.
The hype is warranted -- Nature's Paradise was our PERFECT vacation
My girlfriend and I initially selected Nature's Paradise based upon its nearly flawless stream of reviews from past guests. I'm delighted to say that we made the right choice.
David and Wanda Wallace made our vacation so special and literally 'saved the day' on a few occasions. We arrived belaguered and with our luggage lost somewhere between Miami and Puerto Rico. Without hesitating, Wanda loaned my girlfriend a bikini and a few shirts so that we could start enjoying the island and its beautiful beaches immediately -- try getting Sandals to loan you a bathing suit!
One of the greatest values provided by David and Wanda is the fact that they know the island so well and can provide you with a short list of things you must do, based on your interests and preferences. My girlfriend and I are adventurers and used the Wallaces advice to plan our daily trips to waterfalls, beaches, fishing villages, rainforest, restaurants et. al. Each morning over breakfast (which is a wonderful spread of fresh fruit, juices, fresh bread, cheese and yogurt), Dave and Wanda would pull out a road map and point us in the right direction, marking points of interest along the way.
We were on a tight budget and unfortunately could not afford Dave's famous Soufriere tour, though we were fortunate enough to take a mini tour with Dave to a nearby waterfall in Anse La Raye. Dave provides the perfect narrative to his tours and is very interesting and funny. A professional photographer, Dave even took some incredible photos of my girlfriend and me climbing around on the falls. I would HIGHLY recommend springing for one of Dave's tours.
Marigot Bay is located ~20-25 minutes south of the Castries area and ~45-60 mins from Soufriere, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the rest of the island.
Marigot Bay is a gorgeous area with a nice beach and number of very good restaurants and bars. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed sitting on the deck of Chateau Mygo (always 2 for 1 happy hour) or Dolittle's and watching the sailboats come in and out of port.
Nature's Paradise is about 5 mins from the bay, up the side of the mountain. It is a dirt road for the majority of the ride up, so it is advisable to have a jeep during your stay. We thought the road added to the romantic nature of our getaway and made us feel like we were really away from it all -- i.e., no loud traffic.
Our cottage was AMAZING. We had a super comfortable queen sized bed, kitchen, bathroom and fantastic deck. It was so useful to have a kitchen and fridge, as this enabled us to take full advantage of our deck (ice cold beers and snacks for our road trips to Soufriere and beyond).
Wanda's gardens are spectacular and really do feel like paradise. The deck of our cottage (Avocado cottage) was surrounded by bamboo, palms, blooming ginger, chenille plants and bougainvillea. Each morning and evening we looked forward to sitting out on our deck feeding the birds, watching the ocean and enjoying the flora. The pool is also amazingly beautiful and surrounded by ocean vistas and blooming plants.
All-in-all, this vacation was even better than we could have hoped for, much of which is attributable to our kind hosts at Nature's Paradise. If you're looking for an all-inclusive jumbo resort, this is definitely not your place. However, if your looking for a gorgeous, romantic and personal vacation, there's no better place in St. Lucia.
Dave and Wanda, our hosts at Nature's Paradise, were incredible. Our honeymoon couldn't have been better. We were advised on every aspect of our vacation; the service was very personal. We were given tips about where to eat, the best snorkling beaches, how to get around, and fun stuff to do, just to name a few. The cabin we stayed in had an amazing view, comfy 4 poster bed, great kitchen, access to a refreshing pool, and was surrounded by lush vegitation. I never want to stay in a big hotel again!
