Questions from St Lucia first timers:)
by knutson11
We will be traveling to St Lucia May 11th thru 19th and staying in the Soufriere area (Jalousie Plantation or the Anse Chastanet). I've been reading about the area and gathering information but haven't found answers to these questions:
1. Are either of these resorts worth the money?
2. Is this area busy in May? (beach area)
3. SOme resorts offer up to a $200 per day meal credit. Does $200 go far or would one p/u groceriesen route to supplement?
4. Are most of the resort restaurants buffets or what they serve you get?
5. Are most causual dress for dining?
6. I was told to take a shuttle from airport (UVF) to resort THEN rent a car. Resort person stated these resorts are remote and hard to find. Does this sound true and once at resort, can I easily rent a car from there at a decent price?
Thank you ahead of time and any other advise would be great:)

I spent a week sailing the western coast from Rodney bay to the Pitons back in 2008. Though I never spent the night in either hotel I did get a chance to spend several hours at each, sailboats and crew are welcomed at these hotels. Both are really nice but I liked the Hummingbird beach hotel just on the edge of Soufriere proper http://www.nvo.com/pitonresort. This hotel is in between Jalousie and Chastanet and walking distance to town. #2 I think May would be the end of the season and you could get a off season rate. Do not know #3. #4 not going to find any buffet at Chastanet, not sure about Jalousie. #5 I would dress up ie slacks and collars shirt for men and a dress or something nice for the ladies. This area is sort of remote though I did not travel by road I think I would hire a driver from the airport to your resort to get a feel for the lay of the land then decide if you want to rent a car when you get there. Did not rent a car but hired a driver for $70 and toured the area for the day.

Piton - the beer of St Lucia!
by SWFC_Fan
Piton beer is brewed and bottled on the island of St Lucia, in the town of Vieux Fort.
The beer takes its name from St Lucia’s most famous landmark – the Pitons (two volcanic peaks in the town of Soufriere), and the label on the bottle depicts this amazing landform.
Beach below The Pitons
by Martin_S.
Try and find the path that takes you down to the beach below The Pitons. As you approach on the road you will pass several fancy hotels, pass them and you enter a small village, at one point there is a very small turnoff to the right, sort of a trail really, take this to its end and you are on the beach.
2nd Largest city in St. Lucia, W. Indies

"St. Lucia"
We stayed 3 days in the mountain overlooking the city of Soufriere, at Crystals, the place is awesome. We stayed the remaining 5 days nearer to the small city (pop. 15,000). The black sand beaches of anse chalet are so great. The Pitons are beautiful and looming. There are some warm mineral waterfalls to bath in, a MUST. It is an enchanting island, but be warned, the natives will hustle for extra money. We used the bus system to get back and forth to the capitol. Very inexpensive and you can speak to the folks and get tips.
