Before booking we asked the owner couple things about the house to make sure, everything is in working conditions. Original quote: “we got few questions: 1. is us-tv

We arrived on this beautiful island, took a car from owner’s housekeeper (the one and only time we saw him for 30 seconds) and drove to the house. The house has an amazing location and the pictures on the net don’t lie BUT taking a walk inside, you will find some differences between the owner’s promises and the reality. Except of the washer, dryer and the new refrigerator most of the items in the house are old and in bad conditions. You will enjoy ONE wine glass, plastic dishes, only one kitchen towel, towels “with more holes than cotton”, and air-condition in both bedrooms, which you only turn on when you are away because of the noise. We don’t know what the maid did, but it wasn’t cleaning and not the first time she missed her job, taking a look into the cupboards and finding much dust and food and other items expired more than one year ago. The towels were wet in the cupboard and linens were hanging outside, wouldn’t we took them of, they would be outside for the whole time of our stay… Doesn’t the owner know about her property??? And of course we found the TV with “more stations than anyone could ever watch”. The TV wasn’t working when we arrived and don’t expect anyone will help you! Why didn’t anyone take care of it? Easy answer: noone is really interested! After 3 days, we found out where the housekeeper’s office is, and: surprise, surprise, the receiver was fixed up! Couple of days later, it broke down again (we think they use pirate channels) but even after several calls noone came to fix it. In total we stayed 6 out of 10 days without the TV which was in the package and you read the original words of the owner above!
Our solution is: The Island is fantastic but if you are in any trouble with the house you rented for 1.500 USD per week, you are lost, especially with the housekeeper. We got enough time to read other guest comments in the guest books, and noticed of course many good feedbacks, but several guests got problems too, but did the owner anything against it? NO!
Back at home, we sent the owner an email and told her about the situation and our expectations of a small refund. Only after a friendly reminder we got an answer. Original quote from the owner: “in eleuthera- satellite tv goes in and out all the time- there is no way to ever guarantee that it will always be on unfortunately---the system goes up and down - and there is no remedy---sometimes we have had guests that have had no tv at all-- and also no water or electricity-- that is eleuthera--- it is far from a 5 star resort--- and the common saying is- "eleuthera- it's not for everyone.."-- we do not offer refunds!”
We recommend the island, it is like a 5* resort, but the house is below 2* in the actual conditions and support of the housekeeper! We are travelling much around the world, stayed in many places and saw many properties. We havn’t expect a 5* resort, but trusted in the owner’s words and promises. We recommend to STAY AWAY from this unfriendly (friendly as long as she can earn any money) and stinginess owner from Rhode Island!
