We arrived late and tired from an uncomfortable trip on the "cruise" ship that connects Grand Bahama Island with the mainland at Ft Lauderdale, FLA. All we wanted to do was get to our room and crash! Very nice personnel (Miss Veronica?) advised us that the room was not ready. She was so gracious and concerned that it was impossible to be miffed at the circumstances. My home town is Las Vegas.....so....I thought that a nice tip might rush the process. Miss Veronica refused and promised that it was not necessary! (that would not happen in LV...!) We finally got our key and was shown to a wonderful suite. It was the size of a one bedroom apartment with a kitchen. I would guess around 600 sq ft. We were so pleased. Everything was clean and pretty. The bedroom had a king isze bed and there was a sofa bed in the living room the was very comfortable. There were 4 of us, so the accomodations were perfect.
The pool (similiar to the pool at the Tropicana Hotel in Vegas) was clean and inviting. Just beyond was the ocean and its cooling breeze. The hotel restaurant was central to the pool and was actually an outdoor patio area. Make sure to have a massage on the beach! It was amazing! This trip was taken in May....within the year of two big hurricanes. The destruction from nature was obvious, yet the beauty was still there. by diver-x Ocean Reef is a time share resort with marina views. We found the management to be quite accommodating. Ask where to go and what to do and they'll arrange it for you (but stay away from the "Dinner-Show"). We stayed 7 nights in a 2-bedroom townhouse and one night in a smaller one-bedroom unit.
Ocean Reef has an on-site scuba operation, Grand Bahama Scuba. They also have car rentals, although the cars are not new. There are two pools, each with a small bar nearby - the swim-up bar was closed - a hot tub and a restaurant. The resort is gated and has 24 hour surveillance. All rooms are air-conditioned and have cable TV. Radisson Cable Beach by happyhourkid It's all good. One thing I will say about Atlantis is it is very expensive. But when you have a lot to maintain, like the world's largest aquarium, it should be expensive and it is well worth it for all you get to experience. But for those who want a little more of a subtle beating on their pocket book, there are other terrific resorts like the Radisson (pictured), Nassau Beach Hotel, Breezes Bahamas, and the Wyndham & Crystal Palace Casino. All offer decent values, are just 10-15 minutes from the airport, and are minutes from downtown and not too far from Atlantis either. No matter where you stay, you can purchase day admission to get into the Atlantis and although you cannot use their facilities like the pools, waterslide, etc. you can have a walk through the aquarium. That in itself is so much worth it.
Most Cable Beach area hotels, like the ones mentioned above, are right on the white sand Cable Beach. No matter where you stay, you will be stared down by the freak of nature, Atlantis Paradise Island. Notice it way off in the distance in the picture. by bottleofdoom This was our friendly bar tendress at Cutlass Bay Club. Since it's all-inclusive, she would fill my cooler everyday with whatever I wanted to take to the beach with me. They had a special tropical drink called 'Cutlass Bay Punch' & it was yummy. She would put some in a tupperware bottle for me to put in my cooler. Theme: Other

View from the lawn by couture57 We stayed here for 8 glorious days in 1994. From the pictures on their website, it looks as good or better now than it was then. This is a rental house where you basically "move in" for a week. Linens, towels, and kitchenware are all provided. My family has several great cooks, so we ate many of our meals at the house. The house is very clean and spacious. Not very fancy, but with all the glorious scenery right outside the door, who cares about decor?
The house is very private. It sits on a point with ocean on 3 sides. It is in the shadow of the famous Hopetown Lighthouse, which is within a few hundred yards. There is a nice big breezeway that separates the bedrooms from the living area. We ate breakfast out there several times.

The Atlantis without a doubt is unparalleled .. The pool, restaurant, natural pool, beach, aquariums, lobby and public areas are simply incredible. To rival those of Las Vegas.
The aquarium is just the COOLEST Thing.. MUST SEE even if you don't stay here!! And the water slide and tube chute that takes you right through the Shark Tank is pretty awesome as well. I felt like a Queen. The security, while highly attentive and firm with the rules, are friendly and always smile and hold doors for you. We stayed at the Princess Club. Across the street was the gambling cassinos. The club has more pool activities and activities on the go around the Island to tour. Many packages are available at the activity counter. Stay away from the time shares if your not into losing 90 minutes out of your vacation that you'll probably never use. If you want a free snorkel or whatever they offer then its a great deal to watch and listen to their speal. Some of them can be very aggressive though. It's high pressure sales. Remember what your momma taught you! Just say no! He He! Theme: OtherComparison: about average
