Atlantis - Paradise Island: To go again.....

This hotel is not just a hotel, it is much more and I suggest everybody to go there once in the life (if the budget permits it...). Lots of pools, lots (but really LOTS) of restaurants, dolphins, an acquatic parc, casino, shops, wonderful beaches... Everything is possible there, both kids and adults will have fun in this hotel!
We were in the coral tower, which are average for the "normal" people (beach, coral and royal buildings); cove and reef are for very rich people only and include also on the beach casino....

The room was good, big enough and very clean. 11 pools are a wonderful alternative to the fantastic beach, and I think that restaurants could offer all cuisines available in the world!
Obviously (and unfortunately) shops are only versace, dolce gabbana, chanel, and so on...
Rooms from 300 to 3'000 (and up) USD per day, excl. breakfast.
Dinner from 120 USD per person

Our Lucayan Radisson Hotel: the best place to stay in Freeport

Grand Lucayan is by far the best place to stay while in Freeport. The resort is huge, extremely clean and the location is perfect: right on the beach and across the Lucaya Marketplace.
The resort has several buildings and it feels like a small town. There are several shops and 17 restaurants all over the complex. There is also a police station, a conference center and a casino inside the resort.
The rooms are expensive, but if you get a vacation package (flight and hotel) then you can find really good deals. We booked our vacation package from cheapcaribbean.com and got an awesome deal.
We stayed in the Breakers Cay building. Our room was spacious, with a huge balcony and very comfortable beds. The room was facing the tennis courts and it was very quiet.
There was a safe and a refrigerator in the room, plus free Internet.
The resort has several infinity pools and a private beach. There is a very nice spa on site, an awesome fitness center and several tennis courts. The restaurants serve lots of food options.
We really enjoyed our stay and we are already planning to go back.

WestWinds 2 Resort: WestWinds is like coming home!

WestWinds 2 is like a home away from home but the "family members" (staff and fellow travellers) are much less annoying! We come here every year - it's just so much fun. We come with a big family so the accomodations and property is perfect. There's a kitchen so we eat a lot of meals on the property (in fact we rarely leave). This year we pre-ordered our groceries from FoodStore2Go.com (it was recommended by the resort) and we had everything we needed for a week delivered right to our kitchen - sure saved us schelpping down to the store and hauling back groceries in the hot sun or with a costly taxi. The pool and the beach kept the kids entertained all day and the bar and fun co-travellers kept me and my wife entertained. It really was a "holiday". We just relaxed and soaked up the sun. The snorkelling is great here too - we saw a lot of colorful fish and one barracuda!! If you do get the gumption to go out, the Casino is close and a few local restaurants - check out Milano Bistro for the best pizza on Cable Beach. Oh, the resort isn't too far from the airport - about 10-15 minutes tops to get there and the fee is about $40 for all of us and our bags. All in all a great trip - AGAIN!! See you all next year!

Atlantis Hotel and Casino: Like you can miss this hotel on the island

Was just in port for one day but loved the hotel and Casino. Its Las Vegas meets the beach.

If you are a blown glass fan one of the world’s best artists has four chandeliers on display here. Dale chihuly does some amazing things with colored glass. Make sure to check them out.

Bell Channel Inn: Simple, cost-effective.

I went to Grand Bahama specifically for diving, so I didn't want to spend a fortune on a hotel when I'd be out on a dive boat all day! Bell Channel Inn fit my needs - small, inexpensive, simple. It's not fancy, maybe a bit "aged" by some folks' standards. If you're fussy and expect the 5-star amenities, you won't like it. I personally don't care if a room has a chip in the paint or if the decor isn't fancy. The room was clean & comfortable; efficient air-con, private balcony, two double beds, refrigerator & many storage cabinets. Rate was around $84 US per night.

All the staff were very friendly & helpful. They have a small restaurant/bar on site. Nothing very gourmet, but it works. They're open from 6 or 7am (I forget) until 11pm so you don't have to rush to eat. Geannie will explain all the local tour options & book trips if you like, but it's not a "hard sell".

Also perfect for my needs: they have their own dive shop on site - Caribbean Divers. They have a smaller boat so it's not a giant crowd of divers getting in everyone's way. The most we had on the 2nd day was 7 divers plus Pressly (Captain & dive leader) and Jerry (dive leader). I had my own gear but the rental gear other divers were using was new. Pressly & Jerry run a professional outfit!

The only drawback: if you want to check out the bars, casino, shops, or other restaurants in the tourist shopping area (Lucaya marketplace), it's a 15-20 min. walk. Not very hard to find the marketplace, but some people may prefer being "closer to town". Also, the pool is very small so it's more for soaking in than actual swimming. (one benefit of smaller hotel out of the main tourist area - it's quiet!)

When I go back for more diving, I'll be staying here again!

TOWNE HOTEL: "Pack your bags, we're leaving..."

First of all, let me say that I'm am not a fussy diva when it comes to travel and accomodation. I've stayed in 5-star luxury but I also enjoy camping in the desert or on the beach. I've also stayed in budget motels and in little beach-shacks with shared bathrooms. I think on most travels you're likely to spend most of your time out-and-about, so why waste cash on a fancy hotel room you'll only sleep and shower in?

That said, the Towne Hotel in Nassau has to date been the ONLY hotel that I have actually refused to stay in.

My family and I arrived late at night at the hotel, flying in from Orlando. The reception area looked basic but good enough. We were led to our rooms in a 30-hour-sleepless-jetlag-haze. But once we actually got in the rooms and switched the lights on I was wide awake!

The bed sheets had holes in them and were GREY. On my aunt's bed there were even some rather obvious "human" stains. Under the beds and cupboards were numerous (and I mean at least 16) dead cockroaches. In the bathroom things got worse.

The toilet bowl had probably originally been white, but was now covered in brown grime that obviously hadn't been attacked with bleach or a brush in years.
There was no hot water in the shower. The shower curtain was hanging by a mere 3 hooks (all others were broken.) The drain in the sink was full of long hairs. And yes, more dead cockroaches littered the floor.

As it was already about 02:30am by this time, we couldn't go wandering the streets looking for a new hotel. So we slept, fully clothed and after laying our own beach towels onto the bare mattresses, just enough to be able to function again (about 5 hours), and checked-out early in the morning.

As we walked past the pool area in the light of day, the state of the pool water was... abysmal.

Naturally, we stayed in this hotel many years ago and it is possible that it has improved over time. Unfortunately, I don't know.
But I thought it just fair to share our experience here, just in case it's still the same old Towne Hotel...

Grand Central Hotel: Safe, lesser expensive hotel option

I stayed in a single room in the Grand Central Hotel on the 4th floor. The room was unfortunately a smoking room, though I had not requested a non-smoking room. Aging bathroom ensuite, cable TV, window air conditioner, dresser, closet, balcony with chairs, breakfast table with two chairs. Free local telephone calls.

A 24-hour receptionist ensures a secure environment. An elevator makes the room accessible.

One of the less expensive hotels in Nassau. My room (a single) was $67 per night.

Mignon Guesthouse: Least expensive safe option in Nassau

I stayed with Mary and Steve at Mignon Guesthouse for four nights in April 2010. They have six medium-sized, clean rooms on the second floor of a downtown building. Rooms have TV, AC, desk, clothes rack, fan, dresser. There is one bathroom for females and one for males.

Guests are able to use the refrigerator, freezer, and microwave, and purified water is available. A phone and desk in the hallway (with telephone books) make making reservations for tours very easy.

Each room is very clean and the location is quiet and centrally located. Two gates to enter the guesthouse make this a very secure place to stay.

One or two people stay in a room for $55 and three for $75.

They only take reservations if you are staying for more than one night. Otherwise, you can show up to see if they have space. There are several nearby options if they are full (e.g. Grand Central Hotel).

Renting a private home: Real Island Living

When we travel, we often like to rent a home for a week or two. This is easiest to do at shore locations all throughout the US, Europe and the Caribbean. It's the absolute best way to experience the country and the lifestyle. In Nassau, we rent a home right on the water of a gated community in Cable Beach. The views of the ocean are amazing, the house itself is clean, beachy and well equipped. I would definitely recommend it.

Probably the best feature of this house is that, despite the fact that it's on the main road (lined with palms) it's also on the ocean, so the view is stunning. There's also your own, private inground pool. It has two terraces, three bedrooms, sleeps two families, and its located right across (or down) the street from restaurants, a grocery store, spa and fitness center etc. Every time I go I love it.

Wyndham Resort: Cable Beach area

Nice hotel with pretty beach and pool area. Grounds, room and common area were clean. Casino on property. Several restaurants on the property, only ate at 2 the Asian food and buffet. Very pricey. We did find a 1/2 price dinner coupon in some tourist literature good during the time we visited. Our package trip we found online included a $150 food voucher which we stretched out pretty good over our 5 night visit. Hotel had free snorkeling gear for the swim area of the hotel beach. Also free kayaking but just in the small limited area in front of the hotel. The single serving coffee maker in the room was a little inconvenient and not sure if the 10th floor had anything to do with it but the AC seemed a little slow at keeping the room cool Overall we had a great trip. Our package deal we found online included around trip airfare for 2 from Tampa to Nassau, 5 nights 6 days at the resort, $150.00 food voucher and all taxes and fees. The total for 2 was $781.00. Departure fee from airport was included as well as the $17 per night, per person room fee for cleaning etc.
