from all the big beachresort I think Turtle Beach is the best concerning price-quality level
but it does not belong to the cheapest countries in the world..but you get excellent food and the resort is nice situated with lovely beach
The Turtle Beach Resort not only has a fantastic location on the beautiful white sands of Courland Bay, but is also proud to boast that it has the largest lagoon-style swimming pool on the island - great for sun-worshippers of all ages. Whether you choose the swim-up bar or the beach bar, you can take your choice for that sneaky afternoon cocktail! For those more active, the water sports centre offers a wide range of sea-based activities, including sailing and scuba-diving with everyone from beginners to the more advanced catered for. Dining is usually a casual affair and Kiskadee Restaurant always offers a great selection of Creole and international dishes. After dinner, you can enjoy some authentic Caribbean entertainment, including steel pan, local bands and cultural shows. With all rooms boasting a sea view, you can't go wrong with this great value hotel. And from Mar-Jul, giant leatherback turtles come and lay their eggs right on the beach. Later, the baby turtles hatch to make their perilous way to the sea - a wonderful sight to behold!
Hilton Trinidad& Conference Center
They have a big pool where you can relax, swim and drink a Carib or have a nice lunch.
The rooms are also very nice and it's really worth a visit! I've been here a couple of times and I must say it has been the same for the last 15 years. Over the years they haven't changed a bit. Everytime I visit it just brings back memories.
$120 a night for the whole house. A longterm rental is possible too.
It's a private house with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, fully airconditioned and it has everything you need to make your relaxing holiday complete. Have a nice barbecue in the big garden or relax on the porch after a long day on the beach. If you would like to have a grand tour, look at my travelogue called 'Samaanview Cottage'.

Finding a not to expensieve place to stay in Carnival Season in advance is rather difficult. I tried for months to find a place through the internet also through VT but without luck. The prices variats from 50 to 200 US$ for one room in a guesthouse.
But first getting there gives you much more posibilities.
You can start in a hotel in Port of Spain and then later ask people if they know somebody who got a room or even an apartment you can rent.
Then you get a cheaper accomodation and maybe you be lucky to find new friends that can 'help' you through the carnival.
The website http://www.visitTNT.com has a wide listing of accomodations. Also, try http://www.islandconnoisseur.com.
I stayed in Chaguanas, 35 kilometers south of Port of Spain with a family. It was easy to get transportation with Maxi-Taxi or Taxi from there to Port of Spain, also through the nights.
In Tobago I stayed in Charlotteville in the north, Here you can allways find accomodation in guesthouses or with families. You can also rent villas.
Prices variats from 10 US$ for a room to 100 - 200 US$ for a villa.
In the 'the capital' of Tobago Scarborough I just went to the street Sangsters Hill and asked people for accomodation and ended up to pay 50 TT (about 8 US$) for a good room.
You can allways ask.
People in T&T a very friendly and allways want to help.

When we made or arrangements with Joan by e-mail, months before we actually arrived, it was so easy with Joan giving help and advice along the way, it was an easy choice to pick them for our B&B.
Matthew offered to pick us up at the airport on our arrival and when I asked "how much", he just said "no problem, you are our guests". We needed to go to the bank, we asked where can we find, Matthew took us in his car. We needed to go shopping, Matthew took us. We wanted to go listen to the Steel Band playing nearby, Joan took us and introduced us to the teacher. In other words they went out of their way to help us in every which way. I thanked them a million times, so here is the million and one, thanks Joan, thanks Matthew, you made our visit special.
Joan and Matthew William who own and run the B&B are just the warmest and most helpful people whom we have met in a long time. After we met them it seemed we hit it off and Joan cooked us a home cooked dinner and invited us to her home, Matthew took us on tours of a flower growers (a friend of his) and also drove us to the bank and to the airport just, well just because. We would sit and talk with them in the evening or morning and they made you feel like family, they're great.

This is a delightful family owned inn which is ideal for nature lovers or just anyone who wants to get away from it all. There is a balcony where one can watch Hummingbirds and other tropical birds. The rooms are sparse, but comfortable and all have a ceiling fan.
Your hosts, Gerard and Oda, are delightful.
The picture shows the tropical hardwood forest behind the inn.
