Basic hotel, lovely location

Maracas bay is about 25-30 minutes from Port of Spain, along a very windy road, that is often wet as the clouds and mist drop moisture on it, so be careful when coming and going, there also aren't a lot of overtaking points so if you get stuck behind something, you've got to be patient...

Maracas bay is probably the best beach on Trinidad, its pretty long, pretty popular and home the famous ' Bake n' Shark'. The Maracas bay hotel overlooks the beach, you're literally 100m from the water, and the waves crashing on the shore are guaranteed to send you off to sleep after a day exploring.

The rooms are basic, there is no TV (though there is a communal TV room), and the bathrooms aren't too modern, but every room has a balcony and a sea view. If you're looking to stay out of Port of Spain and do some sunbathing, then this could be the place for you, Las Cuevas is just down the road and the Piarca waterfalls are a little further away.

Unique Quality: The hotel is right on the beach, its out of the way, therefore quiet, when we were there there were no parties or anything like that taking place in the rooms, it was peaceful. The restaurant does really good food, the bar isn't so well stocked but neither is it so well used, the barman will also provide a taxi service if you wish.
There is an internet connection near the reception but its expensive.

If you want to be closer to the action maybe look somewhere else, we stayed here for 4 days over the carnaval period as everything in POS was booked and it was a little bit of a trek every day, but when we wanted peace, we had it.

There aren't too many shops in Maracas bay either, so you need to do shopping in POS, and there are no fridges in the rooms so don't buy perishables.
