Conch
by cjg1
Conch pronounced "Konk" is a marine snail. The snail is edible and is a popular food item in the Caribean. Conch meat has a mild, sweet clam-like flavor. During my travels I have tried: conch fritters, conch chowder, conch steaks, conch pasta and marinated raw conch salad.
The conch fritter and the conch chowder have been excellent. Liz had a conch and crab ravioli in a butter sauce that was so good I had to try it for myself.
Dive Provo are the best!
by rebaelectric
Dive Provo were the friendliest company with the friendliest people we found on Provo! Their office is in Ports of Call, just stop in and ask about snorkeling trips or diving if you want to go scuba. My boyfriend did a discover dive (his third one, cause he's not yet certified) and had a great time. We also went with them on their snorkel trip to West Caicos which was really a lot of fun!
Also, their shop has some of the coolest Provo t-shirts i found down there, as well as snorkel/dive gear, underwater cameras, etc.
Okay BBQ
by cjg1 about Arizonas
Arizona's was the BBQ restaurant of the resort. They had ribs, chicken and assorted meats such as t-bone steaks. We came to Provo with seafood and Caribbean dishes in mind so we only came here once for lunch. The restaurant is located in the Caribbean Village section of the resort with a large outdoor patio as well as an inside dining room.
We decided to have lunch on the patio since it was such a nice day. We were seated at a table for two with a nice view of the garden. Our waitress was quick to get us some unsweetened iced teas and show us to the buffet. The buffet was located inside with an assortment of meat, chicken, pasta, rice, potatoes, salad, fruit, seafood and desserts. I had some of the curry beef and chicken with some fried potato. Liz had some of the penne pasta, fruit and a beef patty. The food was okay, nothing to rave about.
Explore the Island
by cjg1
Most people staying at one of the resorts never leave their resort which is sad. There is so much to explore on Provo. Liz and I loved walking the beach and exploring the other resorts and restaurants. Taking a cab to the Blue Hills and experiencing the Conch Festival was a great way to immerse ourselves in island life. So much can be found on Provo if you just take the time to explore whether on foot or by cab; you won't be sorry you did.
Pirates Island Waterpark
by cjg1
Pirates Island Waterpark is the main attraction for the kids and kid at heart types staying at Beaches. The waterpark has several waterslides, flowrider, a lazy river, pool, jacuzzi and fountains for the smaller children to run through. Despite the big "kid" theme to it; we found the waterpark full of adults as well.
The waterpark had a hot dog station if anyone wanted a dog in between slides. There was also an ice cream man with a cart full of ice pops and ice cream cups. We enjoyed several treats from the ice cream cart when we were here.
Liz and I enjoyed the water slides here especially the tube slide which was so much fun. We loved floating around the lazy river which was very relaxing.
