$375/night but we used priceline.com and got it for $75/night

The main door of the room opened to the outdoors. It made us feel like we were staying in our own private hilltop villa. We slept on the Westin 'Heavenly Bed'. It was so comfortable that we would have never woken up if we didn't have an alarm clock!

The place is beautiful. Has a pool and bar/restaurant right on the beach. The villas were extremely large. 6 Girls stayed in on Villa and we all got ready on time- imagine? The service was not so great, may have been b/c it was off-season- no excuse as far as I'm concerned.

There is a casino on the premesis but it wasn't the best. Also, by the villas there is a private pool/hot tub that is lit up at night. Grab a few drinks and go swim under the stars.

  • I camped while I was here, it was absolutly beautiful. The campground was only steps from the ocean!!!

The owner makes his own spiced rum!! A true treat!

This is the only budget accomodation on the island. Everyone who moves here started out at the Tamarind. They have small single rooms with shared facilities and also regualar hotel rooms with private facilites, and they should offer discounts for longer stays. It's basic but clean and convenient. They'll take phone messages for you and offer a free continental breakfast. You can eat at the courtyard restaurant or just have a drink at the bar with the locals.

    Rental Villas varies

Gallows Point Resort - The only resort I can recommend. There are only about 20 condos so no big crowds, it is set apart but still walking distance from downtown. The condo owners maintain the rooms comfortably so you'll get a separate bedroom, kitchen, living room with amenities.

Maho Bay - I like their concept of environmental friendliness. They are a bit far away from Cruz Bay but have everything you need on-site. Their beach is public and is very popular. Warning: cruise ship passengers have day excursions here.

The pool area is the most beautiful I've ever seen with underwater lights, cascading waterfall, palm trees. Just relax and look at the stars...

Bolongo Bay Beach Club - Bolongo Bay is fun, casual, friendly and small, but with big resort facilities.

If you like to relax, find a hammock on our palm-lined beach and read, or try everything from sailing, kayaking, snorkeling or wave runners. Make sure you sign up for their famous 'Snorkel Booze Hunt', where they hide bottles in the bay and you go find them! A great way to learn how to snorkel.

  • Saint Johns : do not hesitate...go to The Inn at Tamarind Court !!! It's a great place with sometimes live music in the patio. Building is new, rooms are big and ultra clean with fan or a/c...and rates are very reasonnable as per Virgin Islands standards. The owners are very helpful.

Tortola : We had huge problems trying to find an 'affordable' accomodation...Tortola is definitively not made for 'backpackers'. We ended up in the Sea View Hotel which is not really a good place (small rooms just cleaned, dirty pool in the patio, and noisy outside, with some night visitors such as lizards...funny...) but with a very sympathic lady running the house. It's extremely cheap for Tortola but it's really overpriced if you had to compare with other places in the Carribean.

    Looking down from Prasanthi's
    upper deck
    by Bostephenson
Because there were 11 of us, we rented a house for the week. It is called Prasanthi. It's located on one of the smaller bays on the island, but because of the tiny size of the island this presented no problems at all.
The house is only rented out on a weekly basis, but the web link has all of its prices.

Prasanthi itself is no longer on the market to visit. However, the company that rented us the house, Carribbean Villa, is still in business. Find their hyperlink below.

While this house can hold up to 12 people, it can be subdivided into upper and lower floors that do not connect, thus making it much easier to house smaller quantities of people. Do note that that bottom floor has a much weaker kitchen and no pool access.
