Beautiful "private" beach. Half the rooms have been remodeled with kitchens, marble floors, great screened porches. Friday night "pirate Buffet" with show is great. Nice bar/restaurant. Hotel has two dive shops on-site. Carambola Golf Club nearby and gorgeous. Fantastic beach. It's public, but we were the only ones there on our visit.

Everything we dreamed of...

This place was amazing. Beautiful beach. Perfect location. Not crowded. Good food. The island of St Croix is a must see. We would recommend Carambola Beach Resort to anyone looking for and island getaway. We preferred an oceanfront room on the second floor. We also rented a 4wdrive jeep wrangler (centerline rentals) and did plenty of exploring. We'll surely be back. Buck Island is amazing. Sandy point is amazing. Sunset grill was our fav hangout (besides Carambola). After this trip we have no desire to explore other islands. Carambola and St. Croix had it all.

We just got back from an amazing vacation. We took our 8 months old baby with us. Everybody were awesome, so nice. We have rented a car, and traveled all around and it was great. We got a crib for the baby, and the room (on the beach) was very big, and comfortable. We were very very pleased, and I think that this is the most beautiful spot on the island. the water were not calm on that beach, but driving 20 min' away, you can find beautiful beaches, with calm water.
Good restaurant to eat in:
Of the wall, H2O - awesome food and atmosphere, the Pirate buffet Friday night - a must!!!

Just booked for my third year in a row. We visit each February when tourism is at peak, and we have this paradise pretty much to ourselves. The staff is warm and treats us like family. Petal at the front desk is soooo helpful and warm.

The place is perfect if you are looking for a remote paradise with flawless aqua water, cool rum drinks and decent food. We are there for 8 days at a time and leave for only one day. It is really a wonderful place to relax. If you are looking for more than beach and scuba, look elsewhere. This place if for relaxation!

The grounds are like Eden and the rooms are spacious with mahogony plantation shutters. Each room has a large a screened porch.

Each meal, you are served by the same friendly faces and they get to know you. We can't wait to see Louise again this year! The place is paradise, but the staff make it feel like home.

A wonderful beach vacation

We just returned from five nights at the Carambola. We had a wonderful time and I highly recommend the Carambola. Our room was great - it was spacious and comfortable, the a/c worked well, and the screened porch is the icing on the cake. The furnishings are not brand-spanking new, but everything is nice, in working order, and clean. We always appreciate a little extra room, especially when we are staying more than a few days, and the Carambola's room are great for that - the separate sitting area and large bathroom really make the room enjoyable. The facilities at the Carambola are good - we enjoyed the game room and exercise room. The beach is beautiful (as some reviewers noted, you have to enter the water from one end to avoid sea urchins, but that was no problem). The food was surprisingly good (they cooked to accommodate my food allergy) and while not exactly cheap, it was not nearly as expensive as many hotels I've stayed at. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. As some of the other reviewers noted, the Carambola is a little bit of a drive into town, but we knew that when we chose it. We would definitely return. (When visiting St. Croix, definitely take the boat excursion to Buck Island, and visit the Buccaneer for drinks or dinner - the view is lovely).

Having just returned from 8 days at this awful place, I feel that I should let people know that this is a place w/ alot of real problems. We have traveled all over the Carib. and this is truly the only place I was happy to come home from. The hotel is very run down and neglected. The food there is awful. The room, tho large and on the beach, was dirty. We arrived and were moved 3 times by the management because their computer system was not working. Christmas dinner was so bad that it was on them. We ate at other places w/ better service and edible food even tho it was a drive each time. The staff does very little to make you feel welcome and that they want your business. The beach is pretty, but has a very limitied swimming area and fills up really fast so you have to drag a chair down from the pool. There is also absolutely nothing for children to do except rent boogie boards at $10 for 2 hours. This is the resort from hell. Do not stay here. We spent most of our time off the hotel grounds. There are parts of the island that are lovely, but it is really not worth the effort to get there.

We stayed in St. Croix for a week after our wedding in Michigan. We had a quaint loft, and adjacent sun room with a picture perfect view of the ocean at Carambola Beach Resort. The friendly staff and layed back atmosphere helped make our stay wonderful. Carambola Beach Resort had the best beach on St. Croix to swim and snorkle, although there are some cliffs jutting into the water that you must be aware of. We spent a a lot of time down the road from the resort at the "local" resturant/outdoor bar /Cane Bay Dive Shop, overlooking the ocean. We drank plenty of Pain Killers and Rum Runners and really had a fantastic time.

"Seeing the Sights"

We rented a jeep for three of the days we spent in St. Croix. We decided to do this after we paid $30.00 for a ride to the local K-mart and grociery. The island is smal, but hilly and to drive from one end to the other takes over an hour. It is worth getting out and four wheling through the "rain forest" area. You should rent a 4x4 if you want the best views.

"The Dive"

We met a wonderful couple our second evening at Carambola Beach and ended up keeping in contact long after our trip. We were at the local bar one evening when a former dive instructor offered the four of us a great deal on a scuba dive. We eagerly accepted this offer and despite all of our fears and apprehensions we all did fantastic and it was adventure we will never forget. The people in this commuity and all over the island have a wonderful attitude and were nothing but pleasant to us Michiganders.

"Carambola Resort"

When we arrived to the Carambola Resort we were pleasantly surprised with the entry to the resort's front office. After dropping off our things and calling the front desk (10pm) for available eateries we quickly discovered how isolated the resort was located. The resort's restaurant was closed and there were no junk machines available anywhere. I guess we were fortunate that the bar scrounged us up a couple of bowls of buttersquash and ginger soup (my wife couldn't eat) and several bags of chips. Needless to say, the following morning we began searching for a rental car!!!

"Service at the Carambola Resort"

The resort itself was gorgeous and it was well-maintained. Other than the evening bartender (very helpful), the majority of the staff did an ok job attending to us. I would point-out there were also a couple of waitstaff employees who reminded management that we were not seated at their tables? Even though the resort was gorgeous, and the rooms were impressive, because of the service, we will never return to the Carambola resort.

"Overall experience in St. Croix"

Overall, we had a nice time in St. Croix. Driving was an experience as they drive on the left side of the road. I admit I forgot and crossed over to the right side by mistake (oops). Even though the island is only 20 miles wide by 7 miles high, it took forever to get from one side of the island of the island to the other. The roads are winding and the speed limit is 35 mph in most areas. Can't be in a hurry.

We found the people to be friendly and hope to return to the islands (another island) next year.
