Gallows Point - The Best!!!
Just returned from 4 nights at Gallows Point. What a great place! The location is fantastic (5 minute walk to town), the accommodations superb, the service friendly and prompt. Loved the bar upstairs at Zozo's for the sunset. Also, the convenience of the Gallows Point Gourmet was very handy. Check out the hammocks down past the pool - no better way to pass the afternoon. Didn't get to snorkel off the beach, but heard many people say there that the snorkeling was great right off the hotel. If you want a nice quiet morning, though, get an ocean view room and not a harbor view, because it can get a little noisy as the boats are coming in and out. We will definitely be back for our next trip!!
Loved Gallows Point
We just returned from a week at Gallows Point & had a wonderful vacation. We were in an oceanview loft unit (2D), with a postcard view of the ocean, St Thomas in the distance & sailboats going by. It is a very quiet location. The only sounds we heard at night were the lap of the waves. I think the harbourview units are noisier with the busy Cruz Bay boat traffic & also the construction of a huge complex just down the road. But they only work til 4:30 PM & most tourists are out & about during the day anyway. Our condo was well equipped & very clean (no bugs of any kind). The units at Gallows Point are expensive but we checked out other options while we were on St John & we found that you really can't beat the great accommodations at Gallows & the very convenient location. My husband was sick for 2 days while there so I was able to walk to Cruz Bay on my own & explore. It is a very safe place. I snorkelled around the rocks right along the property of Gallows & saw lots of fish. We enjoyed walking around the well-kept grounds, admiring the vegetation & looking for the resident iguanas. We found that the store right on the property carried most of the groceries we needed & at competitive prices. The free shuttle to & from the ferry dock is a great service. We rented a Grand Vitara for 3 days & had a good time driving around the island. So many beautiful beaches. While we were there, the surf was too high on the north shore so the snorkelling was better at Little Lameshur. But our best snorkelling was during our half-day sail on Gypsy Spirit II. The coral & varieties of sea life were breathtaking. Some day we would love to go back to St John & Gallows Point.
Great Location, Beautiful Grounds
My husband and I just returned from St. John and we loved it. We stayed at Gallows Point Resort and it definitely lived up to our expectations. We had a harbor view room and the views were spectacular. The rooms are spacious and clean. The room was stocked with all the necessities. The staff were friendly and helpful, but not overbearing. If you are looking for a laid back, pristine resort, I highly recommend Gallows Point.
St. John is our new favorite Caribbean location. We loved the remote beaches, great hiking, and friendly people. There are also so many great restaurants and bars. Woody's is a must for happy hour. Skinny Legs in Coral Bay lives up to its "friendliest bar" reputation.
We highly recommend an excursion tour to BVI. We used New Horizons and went to Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke. The staff on the New Horizons boat were great. It is definitely worth the cost.
Sadly, wouldn't return
Sadly, we wouldn't return to Gallows Point or St John. The beaches all over the island are magnificant, but the part of the island that is not protected is going through a construction boom. Monday through Saturday from 8am until 4pm there are jackhammers, saws, earthmovers and any other industrial tool or truck you can think of at top volume. The beatuiful beaches just weren't worth the non-stop construction noise. Additionally, the staff at Gallows Point were not sympathetic to the chaos nor friendly in general. One incredible high point though--Zozo at Gallows is wonderful!
My husband and I just returned from a great stay at Gallows Point
everyone so friendly and helpful. My husband found the boats to be nosiey at night from our condo but I didn't mind it.
The vehicle we rented was not that great at all for the money you pay you would think it would be nicer and cleaner. But thats nothing to do with Gallows. Our unit was very nice and clean the grounds are well kept up.
Great location, comfortable accomodations
Gallows Point is ideally situated, a 2 minute walk from Cruz Bay. We had a second floor, ocean front unit which had gorgeous views of the ocean and St. Thomas. It was generally quiet and peaceful, but got a little noisy in the evening due to the close proximity of Zo Zo's restaurant. The unit we were in was the usual, dated Carribian style, but housekeeping service was excellent and they kept the unit very clean. The snorkeling off the rocky beach was excellent, and the pool area small but quiet. The only downsides were the high cost, and the small size of the property without much grounds to stroll around. A car, at least for a few days, would be reccomended.
Wonderful place to stay while visiting PARADISE!
Gallows Point was such a perfect place for my family (husband, 17 year old son & myself) to stay!! Magnificent beautiful and very well-maintained buildings & grounds, great snorkeling right there (son saw a HUGE stingray there - and lots of beautiful fish), spectacular views, as many amenities as in a villa... BUT with great DAILY MAID SERVICE (very important while on a beachy type vacation... - we must have used 6 beach towels and 3-6 bath towels daily... it was nice to just ask for more as needed and also have them taken away each day- not to mention that it is certainly nice to come back to a freshly made up room after a long day out... I don't want to make beds and clean up bathrooms while on vacation)! The close 3-minute walk into charming, quaint Cruz Bay was the clincher for us... no need to find parking in town when you can easily walk to so many restaurants!
Here's what we did most days: walked over to Chilly Billy's for breakfast, walked back to gather our snorkeling gear & beach chairs (chairs were provided by Gallows) & jump into our jeep (actually a Ford Escape) and had an adventure for the day... Hawksnest, Lameshur, Maho, Trunk, Virgin Gorda... then home to Gallows to take a dip in the pool, more snorkeling right there, wash up... have some wine & cheese on our magnificent ocean view deck... then walk over to a restaurant for dinner followed by some shopping in town...Then back "home" to Gallows for more oohing and aahing at the view from our room and deck... another dip in the pool, then perhaps a movie rented from the little shop there...
GALLOWS WAS SPECTACULAR!!!!!
the best on St John
Location location location... the best thing about G.P. Walk to everything!
Very attractive setting, very friendly, very helpful staff.
Could use a better interior decorator/designer. Would have preferred more tasteful decor, artwork, The cutesy pastel fish prints on the walls and the fake plants have to go.
Patios on upper level too small. And the gift shop should carry more healthy food choices.
Otherwise it is THE place to stay on St. John.
We are going back for sure!!!!!!!!
My new bride and I stayed at Gallowspoint during our honeymoon in June 2004. We stayed in unit 5C. It seems like we talk about the honeymoon at least once a week and how awesome everything was. Gallowspoint is perfectly located to the action yet still secluded from all the activity. We walked everywhere with the occasional cab rides to the north shore beaches. Restuarants are so close and it was probly good that we had to walk a bit after all the eating. Loved the hotel, loved the island. We are going back with the entire family in 2006!!!. If your searching for the perfect honeymoon destination, look no further than Gallowspoint and St. John.
Which Island ?
We are planning a trip to the U.S.VI in May and are looking for recommendations on a great resort. We really dont want an AI because we like to explore a little, but the property needs to be above average in all other respects.....clean rooms, staff, pools, ocean, golf, location, etc.
Who's been ???
RE: Which Island ?
There are great resorts on all 3 islands, but if you want one with a golf course, that will exclude St. John. On St. Thomas, the course is at Mahogany Run where I think you can rent a condo on hotel plan, or stay at the fairly nearby Magens Point Hotel, which is not really a full resort, but it's got a nice restaurant. In St. Croix, the course is at Carambola, a former Rock Resort.
RE: Which Island ?
St John, St John, St John! If you are into exploring this is the island for you. Stay at Gallow's Point. Excellent accomodations, just a short walk to Cruz Bay. They do not have much to speak of for a beach, but the best beaches on St John are not at the resorts. Ive been to St John twice. Stayed at the Gallows Point and also at the Westin. Also stayed in Eco Tents on the east end of the island (would not reccomend unless you are into Eco Travel). True, no golf on St John, but one doesnt go to the Carribean for golf.
