But BE CAREFUL!!!!
by catalysta about Charlotte Amalie isn't the only rough place around
The rapidly escalating crime rate on St. Thomas is NO JOKE, so please be careful & use your good sense when you're out for a wild night on the island. I know, I know, that sounds like an oxymoron, but you can plan ahead to the extent that you only take as much money with you as you wish to spend, don't drink & drive just take a cab, and don't go off the well-beaten path especially after dark. If you're a female, it's not a real good idea to be out partying alone, so try to find someone else in your resort for a party buddy.
And always ask the locals for good specific information. The bartender at the Island Beachcomber beach bar, Candy Wilkerson, was wonderful, she had all kinds of tips for me! (So I gave her good $ tips too, ;-) Most places away from the beach require shirts & shoes, but that can be a skimpy tank top & a beat up pair of thongs for all they care...unless you're in one of the nicer resorts or restaurants, of course!

We are spending a day here off of a cruise and would love to find a nice beach, uncrowded, little waves, and maybe some jetski opportunities. How should we find transportation and what are some good beaches??? Thanks so much
Nicky

If you want to jetski, that might limit you, since only the more populous areas would offer those for rent - they are too noisy & bothersome for the smaller quieter beaches.
Magen's Bay has a gorgeous long stretch of sand that's world famous as a beautiful beach; Lindbergh Bay has other small water sports available like kayaks at the Emerald Bay Resort - they may even have jetskis now, you'd have to look up their website to be sure (they are a Best Western), and the beach bar at the Island Beachcomber is a popular low-key beach bar with locals & visitors alike. Both are easily accessible by cab from the docks at Havensight.
At Crowne Bay Marina you can also hook up with Blue Island Divers (they will do pick-ups from the cruise ship dock if you book in advance) for diving & snorkeling trips; or you can catch the shuttle here to the Atlantis Submarine, which I understand is quite a trip.

Oh, almost forgot, there's also CoralWorld at Coki Beach, and the beach itself also has a busy beach for snorkeling, diving & swimming.

When are you going? Are you docking in Phillipsburg or Marigot?

Are you going to be in the USVI or on St. Marteen? I am a little confused.

We went on a cruise there last year and went to orient beach. The beach has places a few steps from the beach with lounge chairs umbrellas etc.If you wish to snorkel or parasail, dont book it on the ship you can do it there very inexpensive.Depends on what you like.We went to saint Johns YTrunk bay on the stop before it.The beaches ther were the most beautiful, but were very secluded.Ipersonally preferred orient beach a little more activity, but not too much.We ended up at pedros on orient beach. You get a free rum drink with your five dollar chair rental. Also had a regae band playing all day.Orient beach is on the french side.We had so much fun thats all we did the whole day.The people were great.Orient beach is a large beach. There is a nude part which is boarding pedros. Our first time seeing a nude beach. If youve never been to one believe me it is a natural feeling. Not a sexual thing. If you do go there and parasail say hi to chichi boy.

Mullet Bay. No jet ski rentals, but very uncrowded and very beautiful.
Bai Rouge (on the french side) is a great beach with waves and there is an awesome seafood grill on the beach. They serve Guava Berry Coladas and they are way to good. You MUST try a Guava Berry Colada if you go to St. Martin. Some of the French beaches are topless, so if you have young children beware of that.
