magen bay

Does anyone know the cost to rent chairs? Are there taxis available to take you back to the cruise ship?

Re: magen bay

by grandmaR

Yes there are taxis or you can ask the taxi that takes you to come back and pick you up.

The following website should help:

http://magensbayauthority.com/rates.html

It doesn't mention anything about the rate for renting beach chairs but there is a number available to call. I can't imagine it to be more than $5.

Travel Tips for Charlotte Amalie

The Four US Virgin Islands

by visurferguy

There are basically 4 Virgin Islands. St thomas (the busiest), St John (most laid back), St Croix (the largest and at present, slowest) and Water Island (the smallest). St John and St Thomas are easy go betweens on the ferry, they leave every half hour. St Croix is a good hour and a half on the fastest ferry--or a plane ride. Charlotte Amalie has nice conviences and the most to do at night. St John really has no night life except for Duffy's and Woody's. St John's beach, though really are the most spectacluar.

Blackbeard's Castle

by arissat

This tower is considered to be one of the oldest buildings in St. Thomas. It is located at the top of the 99 steps. I believe it has a great view of Charlotte Amalie, but they wanted charge us $20 per person for a tour. They did not allow us to get in just to take picture without taking this tour.

Paradise Point Tramway

by arissat

The Paradise Point Tramway, is a cable car and its ride has a great sightseeing. The trip takes you up to 700 Feet above sea level and you can enjoy panoramic views of cruise ships, the harbor with its sailboats and seaplanes, downtown Charlotte Amalie, and the neighboring islands. The roundtrip cost is $15 per Adult, $7.50 for children (6-12 years) and children 5 and under are free (Tip: if you rent a car at Budget, you'll get a coupon book with one roundtrip free when you buy one adult ticket). You can also go up to Paradise Point by car. You can stay at the top for as long as you want! A bar and café is located at the top. Tramway is open only when there is a cruise ship in town.

Remember to drive on the left!...

by magnbay

Remember to drive on the left! If you ask for directions, be prepared for some strange responses. At one hardware store, my wife was directed to try 'East End' next to the two speed bumps by the Catholic Church. Another time we got 'One block past the bridge'. There are very few named streets outside of town, and even then most people don't know them.
