www.friendscharter.com: USVI Sailboat charter

Fabulous 42 ft sailboat with competent cheerful captain and lovely wife. Sail around St Thomas and St John in a comfortable sloop that is run like a B & B at a much lower cost than regular sail charters.

Sleep on the boat in a large comfortable cabin (for a sailboat = you get full size bed and full bath). Enjoy the beauty of Caneel Bay, Maho Bay and other attractions. Great snorkeling, sailing. Jeff is friendly and experienced. Kristi is a gourmet health food cook and she also sings, plays guitar and is an expert knitter. Zoya, adorable little dog is affectionate and not yappy.

Crescent Point: Island Home Away From Home

Wow...is all I could think when I saw the view from my balcony! My sister and I found Crescent Point on vrbo.com under the St Thomas, Crown Mountain listing. The pictures on the listing were nice and in person the vacation rental didn't disappoint. Everything was beautiful and spotlessly clean. The owners were kind enough to meet us at the airport and we followed them up in our rental jeep. They were so accomodating and full of advise about things to do. They really made our trip special.

Secret Harbour Beach Resort: PERFECT FOR THE FIRST NIGHT

We had booked one night at Secret Harbour Beach Resort because we knew that it might be tricky to get from the airport in Charlotte Amalie to the ferry port in time to reach the last ferry to our destination, the BVI. We chose it because of its good reviews on tripadvisor.com and because of its location near the ferry port of Red Hook. A wise decision! Our plane was late, the drive to the hotel took a long time (over an hour!) and it would have been a similar drive to Red Hook.

So we came to the hotel, totally exhausted from the humid welcome to St. Thomas and enjoyed the airconditioned room and the huge terrace most. All I wanted was to jump into the pool which was only one staircase away from our room. As soon as we were ready a bad thunderstorm started and introduced us to the Caribbean. We sat on the terrace, it was getting more humid and all I could think of was to dive into the water. Which I did as soon as the lightning moved away. It was still raining and I enjoyed this a lot. The sounds of all the animals around us and the rain on the water was fantastic!

Later we checked out the resort's restaurant which was ok - ABSOLUTELY - and collapsed into the comfy bed. The next morning at around 7 the sun was out. I went straight into the pool again and enjoyed a relaxing hour in the pool on my own.

Great stay. Would ABSOLUTELY stay here again if I had to go to St. Thomas again ;) We paid 195$ for our Oceanview Suite. As this is rather cheap for Virgin Islands prices I think it was a fair deal.

Our room was huge, it had a fully equipped kitchen, a not so well working bathroom, a wardrobe, telly and a huge terrace with deck chairs and a table with 4 fancy bar stools. Everything apart from the bathroom was clean and comfortable. The bed was fantastic. Air conditioning was very cold and loud but necessary to keep the heat and the mosquitoes away.

The pool was only one staircase away. It was empty when we were there and I enjoyed it very much. We only saw the beach in the darkness. It looked smallish but nice.

Staff was very friendly. A bit hard to understand the drivers though ;)

Explorer of the Seas: Cruise Ship

We arrived in St. Thomas via the Explorer of the Sea. It is a very large cruise ship and has all the amenities one could desire: a spa, a gym, pools, jacuzzis, restaurants, pubs, shopping, ice skating, entertainment, mini golf, in-line skating and so much more. Our room was very comfortable and the service on board is excellent.

Pavilions and Pools - Part 2: A Unique Place to Stay on St. Thomas

A co-worker recommended Pavilions and Pools to me. It is a group of condos that each have their own private pool. Each condo is individually owned. The negative side to that is that each owner determines what renovations and decorating will be done. Obviously some owners took much better care of their units than others.

I must admit as we were walking to our unit (#121), I was a bit nervous. I had heard a lot of negative things about Pavilions and Pools. When we opened the door, I couldn't have been happier with our place. It was beautifully decorated and very well cared for. It had a full kitchen so that we could prepare our own meals if we chose.

The bathroom!! When we were first exploring our place, we noticed a closed door and wondered where it led. We opened it and discovered a very unique bathroom. It was full of plants and a garden and had an open air ceiling leading to the outside. When you took a shower, it felt like you were outside. Truthfully, it was blazing hot in there, but as long as you were in the shower, it was fine.

The pool!! Each unit had its own pool that was a very nice size and extremely private. When you were in the bedroom, you could open the sliding glass doors and step right into the pool. Another great thing about the sliding glass doors was that we had a stunning view of the full moon at night.

Morning Star Hotel: St. Thomas' best hotel beach

Morning Star is part of the Marriott resort, Frenchman's Reef, which is a 6 story building up on a hill behind Morning Star. It is the best hotel on the island for accessiblity to beach. It's right outside the rooms. I would stay there again. You do need to take an island taxi to town or off-site restaurants, but that is easily done.

You have a choice of restaurants or pools at the Frenchmen's Reef or Morning Star. You have views of the cruise ships coming into port at the Frenchmen's Reef or the ocean at Morning Star.

Island View Guesthouse: Great Place to Stay in St. Thomas

The rooms aren't anything special, but they are clean and comfortable and the area is relatively quiet. The real charm of this place are the owners, Ron and Beth, and the quality of service they provide. Twice I was saved the time and expense of a taxi ride when I was dropped off downtown by Ron and Beth (it is less than 10 minutes and less than $10, but still....). They also arrange boat outings and snorkeling trips among other offerings. There is a well-stocked honor bar, the breakfasts are solid, and the dinners are as tasty as they are well priced. As long as Ron and Beth are running this place, I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else.

In addition to the great views and the oustanding service, this place serves some of the best valued dinners on the island. The curried shrimp and ribeye are standouts.

Frenchmans Reef & Morning Star: Frenchmans Reef Marriott Beach Resort

Frenchmans Reef & Morning Star has a shuttle service from the airport its a 35 min ride, once you get there its like to step in another part of the island away from all the activity of the port. Is a excellent place to sit and relax and watch the cruises pass by.

Great views they have a few kinda bungaloes by the shore with a breath taking view of the sea.

Crystal Cove Beach Resort

We stayed @ the Crystal Cove Beach Resort in Sapphire Beach in sep. of 2000. We had a one bedroom apartment that could have easly fit six people. It had a balcony, and a full kitchen which we should have taken advantage of, but instead we spent all our money eating out. The apartments are right next to the Hotel, and both are right on the beach.

Bolongo Bay Beach Resort: Be treated like you are family!

We chose Bolongo Bay because of a special they were running. All three of us stayed there on an all inclusive plan for $190 a night.
It was so wonderful there! The staff truly does treat you like they have known you all of their lives!
Our room was spotless and very comfortable. It also had a great ocean view.
We were never without food or drink at any hour of the day.

We have been wanting to go back, but there are just so many other places to see in the world.

Great, award winning food
Nice beach
Awesome snorkeling
Iggies Beach Bar
Secluded
Harry makes the BEST rum punch ever!

This hotel build on one of the the best spots of St. Thomas. Service as good as in Marriott anywhere. It is an older hotel and it is undergoing some renovations. It is right on the beach and ocean view is outstanding!

Bluebeards Beach Club: Bluebeards Beach Club

We like Bluebeards beach club because they are condo units that have kitchenettes. Beach is ok but some rocks. It is a very reasonable place to stay when you compare.

Great pool, view of cruise ships leaving harbor at night, nice bar and restuarant staff, be sure to rent a car...shuttle runs infrequent.

Blackbeard's Castle: Beautiful views

Blackbeard's Castle had a very friendly staff, very clean and comfortable rooms. Windows had shutter's only with ceiling fans, very comfortable with the tropical breezes, great views overlooking the port of call from our room.

Nice swimming pool with waterfalls.
Restaurant was great and the hotel offered entertaiment on the weekend, a limbo party which was fun.

Great staff with good service.

Resort Hotel: Frenchman's Reef

I would recommend to anyone. Good service and facilities. Great breakfast. Nice pool and tanning decks. I have stayed there multiple times. Good service provided for reservations at area restaurants, tours, etc. Front desk staff are helpful.

Price varies according to season from 100 to 400 or more a night.

Only the Ritz is nicer on St. Thomas but the Reef has a better location set above the ocean.

Great Hotel with access to Sandy Beach. Scuba boats pick up at hotel dock. Water shuttle to town during the day. Great Happy Hour including rum-based drinks served in the pool. Ocean rooms have great view. You can also watch the crusie ships come in and out of the harbor. Resort is self contained within an easy taxi ride of town and everything else. Price is reasonable given the quality of accomodation and location. Variety of restaurants from high quality to deli food.
