Sapphire Beach

by agapotravel

We stayed at Pavilions and Pools, and the closest beach was Sapphire Beach. It was about a 5-10 minute walk to get there. This beach gets very crowded during the daytime, but we visited later in the day, and it wasn't crowded at all.

The water is calm here, and there are many amenities since it is connected to Sapphire Beach Resort.

Every weekend a steel drum band comes to this resort and plays music for all the beached tourists and locals. Also, every night there is some form of entertainment here including dancing, steel drum bands, some crazy woman who walks on glass and the ever frightening karaoke night where you just may hear a Jimmy Buffet song. ya think? go naked - it's more fun.

There are lots of iguanas roaming around on the beach. Leave them alone and they will not attack you (we were told that they were using their tails for this purpose!). Do not try to feed them. They do not get bothered if you take a picture of them as long as you do not try to touch them.

We stayed at Sapphire Beach Resort and our hotel was right on this gorgeous beach! In my opinion, it is one of the best beaches in St Thomas. There are plenty of trees on the beach that provide shade. Iguanas are roaming freely on the beach and they even get in the pool! There are ducks on the man-made pond close by.
Water sports are popular here and include wind surfing, kayaks, jet skis and parasailing. There is a beach bar, a restaurant and some gift shops by the beach.
Shallow reefs on the right side offer good snorkeling for kids mainly.
There is always music on Sunday afternoon and live music at the beach bar. Plus, you can always find people ready to play a volleyball game.

Snorkel

by arissat

You'll find great beaches to snorkel. Coki Beach is very popular for snorkeling, but we had great experience at Sapphire Beach, even though people there said that there is not a great place for snorkeling... You will find rentals for the snorkeling equipment, but we brought ours. There are some beaches that does not offer rentals, so this is why I would suggest to bring your own snorkel equipment.

Beach Amenities

by PhilfromRaleigh

I'll be vacationing on the beautiful St. Thomas Island in May. Can anyone tell me if beach amenities like chairs and umbrellas are available at most beaches and for use by the public. I was there for a single day a couple years ago (a cruise ship guest) and stopped by Sapphire beach only to be told the beach furniture was for guest of the hotel only. Is this typcial? Should I bring my own?

Most beaches are not public. Those that are public may or may not have chairs. Most people bring their own or use a hotel's.

All beaches on St. Thomas are public, which means you are able to have a spot on the beach with your own chairs, blankets, etc. There are some beaches, such as Megans Bay or Coki Beach where you can rent chairs for a small fee. When I first saw this at Coki I thought they were con artists, but our SCUBA instructor advised us that its perfectly normal for stuff like that. I would recommend bringing your own towels (or borrow some from the hotel you are staying at) and then renting a chair at one of those beaches (they are both georgous). I would also recommend going to Emerald Beach located near the airport as it is VERY quiet, not crowded and you might be able to sneek some useage out of the chairs at the Best Western.
Please feel free to email me if you have any other questions about St. Thomas!
I hope this helps...Have a great time!
