We stayed in a superior suite (king bed, full bath, dinette area, living room and full kitchen. All units have large decks/patios facing water view, with a partial view of St. John. This was a great place! We got a really good deal-it was summer rates, PLUS if you are an Entertainment member, it was 50% off! Grounds are very nice. Suites are very private. Two restaurants on premises...one beach/casual, other upscale. One phone call, and they will send a shuttle to the suite, and take you anywhere on the property. Tennis courts, 3 pools, two beaches, nature trail, and walking distance to Coki Beach-----GREAT snorkeling!! and Coral world. Snorkel equipment is free of charge. Fitness room, and laundry, too. Activites desk, and gift shop (small). We loved it, and would stay there again.
Unique Quality: The nature trail and beaches......trail to Sugar Beach---you will see iquanas. And nature is definately a theme here. Lush vegitation, birds, lots of lizards and anoles around. View from the suite was so nice. Very relaxing atmosphere.

I just returned from a week at Point Pleasant and was "pleasantly" surprised. I had read many of the reviews and arived with trepidation.
Much to my delight the unit (D-28) was absolutely lovely, very well maintained and immaculate. The view was nothing less than spectacular.
There were 3 pools but we mostly availed ourselves of the tiny private Sugar beach and Coki beach which was walking distance. I found the walk up and down the hill refreshing, though we could have opted for the shuttle. The transportation was great - don't use cabs, use the dollar buses which come very frequently, are open air nad afford the chance to talk with the locals. It was great to be able to sit on our balcony while enjoying coffee and breakfast. Also the daysail on hte Windstar was fabulous and conveniently located at Fungi's, just a few steps down the hill. You can have those big crowded resorts with their wall to wal crowded beaches - we'll be back to Point Pleasant!!
All the villas are built into the side of the mountain, in the middle of a nature preserve. We stayed in D-17, a one bedroom superior suite on the top of the mountain and the views from the balcony (and every room in the suite) were incredible. We enjoyed walking through the nature trails to beautiful Pineapple Beach, to swim in the three swimming pools, to get a burger and a tropical drink at Fungi's while watching the sunset, or dining at the Agave Terrace and watching the moon rise over St John and the British Virgin Islands. You can walk to Coki Beach and Coral World and the ferry to St John is only a 5 minute ride. We also enjoyed the complimentary bottle of rum that was waiting for us in our room. For people who don't like to walk, there is a shuttle bus. We loved Point Pleasant and will definitely visit again.
I am so glad I picked this resort to stay at. Our room was E6 -- a junior suite. Huge bed, plenty of room ? we had 3 sliding glass doors all facing the ocean -- room was cleaned everyday .... transport (taxis, etc) available whenever we needed it. Even though we were closer to the ocean level than some of their other villas in the same resort, we had a magnificent view. We were close enough to walk to the beach, and to Fungi's, the funnest bar. Fungi's also has a casual-type lunch and dinner for a decent price. (Maybe because I am from near NYC that I didn't find the prices to be shocking!). A bottle of Bud and a frozen drink were under $10 altogether.I saw some of the guests who stayed further uphill take a little shuttle down to the beach area. It did not seem to bother them though. For souvenirs, there's a shop, but the hotel next door (the Renaissance Grand Beach Resort) had a better one. The Renaissance also had an awesome buffet breakfast.Everything was great. Willie was our great transporter - always there when we needed him. Henry was our friendly bartender.I've read the other reviews. I didn't have any negative experience .... TV reception was fine!! The air conditioner was fine ...For the price you pay, you are getting alot.If you are looking for a hotel with room service and people at your feet all the time, this is NOT for you. But if you are looking for a laid back type of atmosphere, with beautiful views and nice clean rooms, and friendly staff, then I'd recommend this place.Maybe all the suites aren't like E6 was. Maybe we just lucked out. Ask for E6 if you are getting a junior suite.Agave's has the best crab cakes you will ever taste in your life. And of course, Henry makes a mean 'zac attack (their version of a bushwacker).- CarolPS We were going to walk to a nearby convenience store, (for groceries) but ended up taking a taxi instead. Once you get outside the grounds of the hotel .... it's a different world over there on the East end.
We loved this property and will definately return!! We found it to be a very relaxing atmosphere and the views were spectacular. This place is definately not a five star resort, you will find that right next door at the Wyndham Sugar Beach. I prefer quiet, layed back, casual atmospheres. That is what you will get here. If you wanted to complain about the condition of the property you certainly could. It is not pristine, but I was certainly pleased with my accomodations. I stayed in a superior suite, in one of the buildings closest to the water. It was heaven to sleep with the windows opened and listen to the water lapping the coastline. I found the staff to be typical "islanders" with a typical "island" attitude. Once again I found them to be charming, and adequate. Sadly most "Americans" just don't "GET" other cultures and expect everything to be exactly the way it is back home. I suggest if that is what you want ...then pay twice as much for a nice room with a garden view at the Wyndham next door. My partner and I had a most enjoyable visit to Point Pleasant, and are planning to return next year and spend two weeks next time!
First off, let me say that the staff was great, they could not have been more friendly or helpful, rooms cleaned daily. We booked a junior suite, got F3. Though we expected the room shown on the internet which seemed bigger, with 3 sliding glass doors, we got a room with only one.
The room was on the top floor and so it had a wonderful view anyway, so we were not too disappointed. The only warning i have for people looking to stay at this resort is that for the most part, it is QUITE a work out to walk around the property, but they do have a complimentary shuttle to take you around if you want. If you dont mind a wilderness-type atmosphere, this place is cool. The property has many up/downhill roads and paths, depending on what suite you get i suppose.
Fungi's, the restaurant/bar located downstairs is fun, Al is great!
There is also a beach with water sports, but again, realize you have to walk through paths and down steps and stuff to get there. The location is short cab ride to red hook, for cool bars, but the main stuff is downtown, which is about $8 per person unless you catch the cheap shuttles, cabs are always around. Overall, Point Pleasant and the whole island is wonderful.
My wife and I stayed at Point Pleasant with our 7 and 3 year old daughters in mid-December. We all had a great time. We had a top floor junior suite. More than enough room and very accommodating. You can tell that the property is aged but it was in very good condition. The furniture was great and everything worked. The ants were few, didn't eat much, and kept an eye on the place while we were out. We enjoyed the tranquility of the property and the view of the full moon rising over the sea at night. We were all very comfortable and the terrain helped to keep them knocked out.
Understandably, complaints come from vacationers who are not well suited to an adventuresome atmosphere. In a posh resort, they cater the environment to you. At PP, you have to adapt to the environment. We enjoyed hiking down to the small beach (about 25 yards of the whitest softest sand you will ever see) pausing for the occassional iguana crossing the trail. We were the only ones on that small beach everytime we went. We took our time going back up the hill by stopping at Fungi's for lunch while pelicans ate their own lunch in the water just feet away. Half-way up the hill we stopped at one of the three pools for a dip. We also picked sugar apples (custard apples) and soursop (guanabana) right off the trees on the property and enjoyed with our dinner. (If you don't know what you're picking, don't pick it. Ask Willie.)
The staff was friendly, conversational, and helpful. In the islands, courtesy is not included in the fee. You have to earn it. You do this by giving some. You get back a lot for what little you give. The East End location is also convenient for shopping, boating, Coral World, beach lounging, kayaking, snorkeling/diving, all within walking distance.
Overall, a comfortable, relaxing, and beautiful environment that is adventuresome, kid friendly, and affordable.
My wife and six year old daughter stayed at Point Pleasant for 5 nights and found it to be wonderful. If you are looking for an "americanized" resort to pampered at, then this is not for you. Everything feels laid back, natural and peaceful.
We fell in love with the incredible views, the natural lush landscaping and the abundance of wildlife at every turn. My daughter loved seeing iguanas lounging from tree limbs throughout the grounds and small lizards scampering away with each step.
The room had some age on it, and there were small insects in the bath and kitchen, but that was a small price to pay for the breathtaking views we had of St. John, Tortola and Jost Van Dyke from our balcony.
Every morning we would sit on the balcony, have a cup of coffee and listen to the birds, sight lizards and iguanas and watch the charters slip their moorings and move on to the next island.
Fungie's was a treat. The staff was great and the food and drink delicious. Even my picky six year old found something to eat and tons to look at from the deck. We did not eat at Agave's, but our unit (B14) was right next door and the smells were fabulous from the dining room and kitchen.
I will return to Point Pleasant. It was the perfect base of operations for our trip. Red Hook is 5 minutes away and the Greatful Deli serves a mean breakfast. The Marina Market has everything you need to stock the kitchen. American Yacht Harbor has shopping, restaurants and boat rentals.
We had the great fortune of staying in D-28, hillside at Point Pleasant. Along side the word "spectacular" in the dictionary, the view from this place should be the accompanying picture! From the wrap-around balcony, the view is overlooking the blue/green Atlantic with St John and other islands in the background. The unit was superb. A one bedroom with appropriate tiled floors, a bed room that opens up into the living space so that one can see the great view from the bedroom. Nicely, simply, appointed with small kitchen and bathroom. If you are looking for a manicured hotel resort and all the ammenities such places offer, this is not the one. Doubt this would be good for children because the walks are steep and the place does not cater to children and families. However, for a couple who wants independence, is free to roam the island (we rented a car), enjoys privacy, freedom, a very adequate unit and a fabulous view, this is the place! On site, the Agave Terrace is a world class restaurant. The seaside grill/bar, Fungis, is average on food; excellent on location .Can't wait to go back!

The nature trail and beaches......trail to Sugar Beach---you will see iquanas. And nature is definately a theme here. Lush vegitation, birds, lots of lizards and anoles around. View from the suite was so nice. Very relaxing atmosphere.
