Going to Albania by car or by bus?

by Veroali

Hello,

i would like to ask, if there is a paid car park, where is possible to leave a car for a week or so. Or is it safe to park it just on the street? Either Tirana or it can be any other town.

If i go to Albania by bus from Croatia, is there any schedule how to get from Ulcinj to Albania or i must really hire taxi to cross the border?

Thank you for the answers

From Croatia (Dubrovnik) take Libertas bus to Bar (Montenegro) and there change bus to Ulcinj. from Ulcinj furgon to Shkoder in AL. Furgon goes 2 times a day from the city centre in Ulcinj.

From Shkofer furgon/mini bus to Tirana or anywhere in the country, But Tirana is best stop as is capital and many furgons from there to the south.
If you are taking your car to Al. make sure you have adequate insurance also get yourself good road map. There is not long term secured parking in Tirana where you can live your car, specially NOT with foreign reg.
Some hotels will have secure car park, but not that secure so you will be OK to live it for a week.

Travel Tips for Tirana

UFO University

by antistar

This building fascinated me. I wondered if they really were studying UFOlogy in there. You can find it on Zogu Blvd. just north of Skenderbeg square. On May Day there was a huge gathering outside, along with Albanian flags and people with loudspeakers. I liked to imagine that they were out to declare Albania's allegiance and welcome the new alien overlords.

Locals at the mosque

by Arkeolog

At any time at Et'hem Bey Mosque, one may find an Albanian reading the Koran, or Muslims praying in the mosque, or visitors immortalising their trip by taking photographs, or enthusiasts of art history wishing to satisfy their curiosity.

Please have a close look at the decoration of Et'hem Bey Mosque.

Tirana, 1988 forbidden photos of women in uniform

by JLBG

In front of Tirana hotel, one guy from our little group could not resist to go and ask to a group of three women in uniform some silly question, just to see how they reacted (first photo). I do not remember what was the question but I know that they did answer very kindly. Our Albanian guide had told us that we should photography neither military facilities nor militaries themselves. But I wanted to have a photo of militaries, so I shot them and did not get in trouble.

Then I did it again from closer (second photo) and the girls did not care…

Tyrbe of Kapllan Pasha

by agmoose02

This place is not really off the beaten path, but can be seen from the same corner as the Statues of the Unknown Partisan and Pasha Sullejman. A tyrbe is a burial monument built to commemorate the death of a bektashi holy person. Though my research into this suggests that Kapllan Pasha is no longer buried here. It is an interesting structure, consisting of some pillared archways and can be easy to miss since it is fairly unobtrusive. Unfortunately my picture of this did not come out. Just head east on Luigj Gurakuqi from Skanderbeg Square towards the Unknown Partisan.
