Very close to Skandenberg Square, convenient

I took this hotel as part of a vacation package for Tirana (September 2011), and I also read some good reviews about it. From pics of the outside of the hotel, you notice a building beside it that seems to have been bombed. But the Nobel Hotel is the one beside it, and true enough, the inside is much better. Reception was quick and I immediately recognized the receptionist as the one who was in a picture on reviews at Tripadvisor. She laughed when I told her about this and so I took a better shot of her and she also became my Facebook friend, haha

I was given a room directly across the reception, and it was small but adequate for my needs. The bed was okay, and the room was clean. The bathroom was adequate with quick hot-cold water and very good water pressure. I was able to sleep with no problems. I did leave early though and so was not able to avail of the breakfast which was included in the hotel price.

What I like about this hotel is it's proximity to Skandenburg Square and it is a very good starting point to explore the small city center of Tirana. There is also free wireless internet and I had no problems accessing it.

Do not worry about the building beside the hotel - according to the receptionist, it has been like that for about 3 years but hopefully the owners of that "bombed" building will fix it someday.

Threre is an bus from Tirana to Tetovo via Struga, (about 10km north of Ohrid)
Goes twice daily, morning and mid afternoon.
price is €15 and it takes 4hts via Librazdi & Elbasan.
Check my Struga page and there is phone number for Struga Bus station. Give them ring to find out what time arrives.
Otherwise bus from Tirana goes from side street on Skenderbeg Square, near the old mosque.

Travel Tips for Tirana

Lumi i länes

by ValbyDK

A small river runs though Tirana, and it is called ‘Lumi i länes’ or ‘the Tirana River’. The riverbanks were made of concrete and it was not the beautiful river area I was hoping to find. However, I think this was the only disappointing experience during my visit to Tirana…

Mother Theresa Square

by agmoose02

This square contains a few points of interest and is only a 15 minute walk from Skanderbeg Square. Here you can find the National Art Gallery, the Archaeological Museum, the Mother Theresa Statue and the Main University Building.

Coffee culture

by skinz

There are many cafes all around Tirana, full in every hour of the day - and rather empty during the night.
One of the reasons behind this is that some of the very best working meetings take place in the cafes. It is important to have a good social relation in order to build a good working relation afterwards.

Qemal Stafa Stadium

by antistar

Albania's national stadium is an unimposing building, but it has a reputation for making opposing teams wilt. It's been the stage of a few famous victories in recent years, not least of which the 2-1 defeat of local rivals Greece in their very first game after winning Euro 2004 in Portugal. I can just imagine how happy that would have made the Albanians.

Results have not been so good for the 2008 qualifiers, with a loss to Romania and a draw against Slovenia. England also won here 3-1 in 2001 in a World Cup qualifier, with Andy Foal getting on the score sheet.

Tirana, pea-cock in the park 1988

by JLBG

There were several pea-cocks wandering in the park but they were rather shy and it took me some time to get close enough of one of them to get a decent photo of a male pea-cock. I suppose that in 1996, the pea-cocks have all been roasted and have helped a few families to survive.
