We have not been to Hotel Mediterran as we were not going to stay in Durrësi but I found that it was ideally situated, near the amphitheater and along the city wall.
I have, amazingly found three different addresses for this two stars hotel:
Rr. Kolonel Tompson
Lagja 1, Torra,
Qender, (Prane Torres)
I suppose they are for two different entrances as number 2 and 3 seem to be the same, labeled differently.
Look at the pictures of the room I stayed in, what was the former embassy of Austria/Hungary in Albania now it's a bed and breakfast run by a hospitable family. I stayed there for three nights and it was a great experience. There was included an excellent all-you-can-eat breakfast and the room and bathrooms were clean, confortable and well maintained.
The price (September 2006) was only 15 euros for an individual room with breakfast, a terrific bargain in Albania. If you are going to visit Tirana you might consider staying here as there are lots of cheap trains and buses to and from Tirana.
The b&b is in the center of Durres but it's difficult to find as there are no signs of any kind. Follow these instructions to get there: Go to the mosque, walk down the alley right next to the town hall, take the first right, a quick left, then a quick right.
We landed our jeep/hotel at the side of the road just out of the centre of Durres. Arrived around midnight, shattered after the night driving from Macedonia, so really needed a good nights sleep. Possibly the worst nights sleep I've ever had. Ridiculously hot, wild dogs barking their heads off every 10 minutes right outside the jeep, and psycopathic mosquitoes circling my head for six awful hours.
It was very unique.
Hotel Uno is on the main street along the bay in Durres. Its a former state run place but renovated a couple of years before. The Hotel has 50 rooms. All have a balcony but no private bathrooms. On every corridor are for clean bathrooms.
There is also a restaurant and a bar serving local food as well as pizza.
Its a three minutes walk to the beach.
