Sea Eagle: The Sea Eagle
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • There's no accomodation within Butrint itself, but just down the road in Ksamili is the Sea Eagle, overlooking the bay and over to Corfu. It's a modern building with 6 twin rooms, each with a shower and toilet en suite. When I was there in 2002, it was run by Jimi and Ouli, neither of whom speak much English, but are very kind and looked after us marvellously (and the food is very good!).

The back of the hotel, both the terrace and the balcony above, has sublime views out over the bay, Corfu and the mountainous Albanian coast. You can sit out here with a drink and watch the sun set - wonderful!

Bed and Breakfast acomodation: Bed and Breakfast in Butrint National Park
Probably I am not the right person to write a tip about this topic because I live in the area and I have not experienced it myself, but I think this activity is ideal for most of people who visit a country for learning something about its culture and traditions. The impressions of people that have tried it have been as “one of the best experiences in my all holidays” or “this place is really amazing and it is unbelievable that people don’t know anything about it”. So, this is the reason why I take my time to write about it. And something very important is that this activity is really for all those who would like to have a small adventure and that are prepared to accept the different situations.

In Butrint National Park there are two old traditional villages where families host tourists in their houses. The Bed and Breakfast in Xarra and Mursia, which are just a few kilometers from the main archeological site of the Park, is simple and economical. Most of the families have traditional houses that are simply furnished, but they are quite comfortable. Usually families divide the house with the guests, so some of the facilities such as the bathroom are shared. The Bed and Breakfast in Xarra and Mursia is ideal for people who would like to experience and discover the traditional life in Albania. Staying in the villages permits visitor to enjoy the beauties of the area and make different activities like trekking and boat tours. For groups can also be organized different activities in the villages like dinners with traditional music and dances. Usually a family can host up to four people, because their houses are small. In the villages can be accommodated groups up to 20 people. As this activity is still in a pilot phase, people who would be interested to experience this Albanian adventure and especially foreigners would need the support from the Park guides or Butrint Foundation project staff, because in the villages it is difficult to find people who speaks English.
