We are a party of 4 hiring a car and driving from Girona to Soldeu on the 27th of this month. Could anyone advise us as to the best route to take to soldeu.
Thank you.
If the route from France is open, (please, check first this), the best is:
From Girona take the C-66 to Banyoles, Olot, Ripoll, Puigcerdá, then enter in France, pass the tunnel Puy Morens (5,4 €), then enter in Andorra, pass the tunnel d'Envalira (5,30 €) and you get Soldeu.
If the route through France is close due to the snow, then you must take, near Puigcerdá, the route to La Seu d'Urgell, then you must get the Andorra border and cross all Andorra: Sant Juliá, Escaldes, Encamp, Canillo and you get Soldeu.

Go to www.viamichelin.com and enter your departure and destination details it will tell you the best route and fuel/toll costa involved!
The road from Ripoll to Puigcerda is really twisty and slow, so not good for 'sensitive' passengers. It takes a hard going 3 1/4 hours this way. After doing lots of searching, I found it quicker (easy 3 hours and in snow in andorra) and a lot easier to go on the C25 past Santa Coloma, Vic to almost Manresa. Take the E9/C16 past Berge to Puigcerda (through tunnel de Cadi). As per the other route posted, you need to know what the weather has been doing. If bad go La Seu D'Urgell and all through Andorra, if good go into France and into the other end of Andorra. You can use the 2 tunnels to save a bit of time but extra cost.
