Haus der Begegnung: Stay in an upscale monastery!

The Haus der Begegnung is an old converted monastery and is run by the local Archdiocese. There are two floors of rooms and though not necessarily touted as a hotel, as such. They do take private reservations. The place was totally refurbished in 1998 and is sparkling clean! Modern rooms with great showers and large rooms make for a spacious stay.

Maid service is daily, though not predictable by hour. I highly recommend this venue for any stay.

Unique Quality: Morning breakfast (included) is very good and ample. Many cheeses, meats, hard rolls, granola greet the visitor. The coffee is superb, but strong. This isn't your typical American or Starbuck's coffee! Enjoy the buzz!

During the Fall and Spring, they do operate a cafeteria, but it is closed during the summers. There is a wonderful central courtyard. There are many meeting rooms, an entertainment room, and a very unusual cellar chapel. I would probably guess this place has existed for centuries, but it is totally modernized. Though not air conditioned, the thick walls help insulate from the summer heat. As in all of Austria, most places aren't air conditioned and you must be instructed on the correct way to open windows. Traditional Austrian windows have a dual hinge and if one isn't careful the window will come tumbling down.
