train: via Munich-Salzburg-Villach (exellent view passing the alps, take a seat right-hand direction from Salzburg!); via Venice-Tarvisio-Villach entering from Italy, or from Vienna also in abt. 4 hrs (take yr. seat left-hand direction to have a look passing the 'Semmering'-mountain.
road: Highways lead to Klagenfurt direct from Vienna

most independence you will get by hiring a car (from June to Sept. pse place a reservation) For short trips you can hire a bycicle (ask at city-hall-information) - also at Railway-Station -
The city-bus central station is at 'Heiligen Geist-Platz' - bus net is quite good!
Two more bus-nets (cross country and national) are
operated by PTT and BB (Post and Austrian Railways);
Central station is nearby Railway-station (Hauptbahn-
hof)
See the round-trip on lake 'Wörthersee' by ship, it takes minimum 4 hrs, you can step out and continue wherever the ship stops. You'll find map and time-table at the ship-station bridges.
If you intend to stay more than few days, ask at information office to get the 'Power Card', it offers
really a lot of attractions trough whole country (with
prepaid extremely discounted entrance and trans-portation fees)
