travel from klagenfurt

by govindkothari

hi all,

I want to go to rome and paris from here...can anyone suggest cheapest option and also about offers that are generally floated from time to time by different transport agencies ? thanx in advance .

There are no direct flights from Klagenfurt to Rome or Paris. So I would suggest you take a night-train from Klagenfurt to Rome (takes around 9 hours). From Rome you could book a flight to Paris Ryanair or Easyjet. Both of these low-fare carriers operate from Rome Ciampino Airport (15 km from central Rome).

Travel Tips for Klagenfurt

The Dragon Fountain

by Bjorgvin

Visit the Dragon Fountain (the Lindwurmbrunnen) in Neuer Platz (the New Square), depicting a water-spitting dragon. The Lindwurm is part of Klagenfurt's coat of arms. An unknown master sculpted it in 1590 from a single peace of stone. In 1636 a fountain was built around the Lindwurm.

Twincities of Klagenfurt

by globetrott

This is a really great way to show the twincities of Klagenfurt and you will find this great mosaique in the street-pavement just a few steps from the "Woerthersee Männli" in the main road that takes you from Alter Platz to Neuer Platz, this street is called Kraemergasse, and in 1961 this street became the very first pedestrian zone in all of Austria.

Golfanlage Klagenfurt Seltenheim

by Maximilian21

Lying in luxuriant countryside at the outskirts of Klagenfurt, Carinthia’s capital, Golfanlage Klagenfurt Seltenheim Golf Club is the largest golf and country club facility in the region.
Its basically a flat course but is very picturesque. Its a 27 hole course with many challenges.
In all honesty i hate this course, not because of its quality or the greens because there all outstanding. I hate it because i had the worst round of my life here, lost so many balls in the woods or the bountiful water water hazards they have here.

Kaerntner Freilichtmuseum - 7km from Klagenfurt

by globetrott

Kaerntner Freilichtmuseum
a great openair museum of old farmhouses in Maria Saal, just 7km north of Klagenfurt, is a great halfdaytrip for the whole family: A lot of wooden houses from all parts of the county were rebuilt there again and you get the feeling to walk through a genuine village of the 17th or 18th century. There is a small chapel there, lots of farmhouses, some mills and a grocery-shop and in most of the buildings you can also step inside and take a look at the interesting furniture of the ancient times ! There is a traditional country-inn as well there inside one of the ancient buildings !
--------------------------------------------
This museum is open for visitors:
daily except mondays from May 1st till October 17th
between 10.00am and 06.00pm
last entrance is possible at 05.00pm !
the entrancefee is 6 euros

This openair-museum is a bit out of the village, just follow the signposts, its about 500m north of the pilgrim-church.

Burg Hochosterwitz - 17km from Klagenfurt

by globetrott

Burg Hochosterwitz
is one of the most spectacular castles in Austria
& owned by the same family since 1570
There used to be a castle at this very important strategic place already in the year 860, but the castle that you see there nowadays dates back to the year 1570, when the Landeshauptmann ( similar to the president of a county) Georg Freiherr von Khevenhueller bought the castle and had it rebuilt step by step. Hochosterwitz castle was ment as a place to flee to for the whole family, who owned several castles in that area. Hochosterwitz was special, because there was just a small path around the mountain and that path, leading you smoothly uphill was fortified by 14 seperate gates, that were built between 1570 and 1586.
Georg Freiherr von Khevenhueller stated in 1576 that this castle should never be sold - you may read this also at one of the inscriptions on a marble-plate - and so this castle is still in the posession of the same family and no enemies ever were able to get inside that castle.
Hochosterwitz is just like a small village on a mountain with gardens and small squares, with a church and several buildings for the soldiers and a total of 14 gates that you have to walk through in order to get to the final main court of the castle.
It certainly is the best and most comfortable way to explore Hochosterwitz, that you take the lift uphill (the fee for that lift is 4 euros uphill and free of charge downhill) and walk down through all the gates, that is an easy walk of 20 minutes and you see a lot of great places and excellent views of the landscape below !

------------------------------------------
Hochosterwitz is about 17km north of Klagenfurt and it is best to go
there by car or by public bus,
the postal-adress is : A - 9314 Launsdorf - Burg Hochosterwitz
