Driving from Klagenfurt to Ljubljana?

by calculette

Does anybody know how long it will take to drive from Klagenfurt airport to Ljubljana? Are there any taxes, special permits, etc that you need to pay for? (I'm a non-EU citizen.) Also, is it possible to pick up a car from Klagenfurt and then drop it off at Ljubljana airport?

Thank you!
xx

Hi, it only takes a hour to drive from Klagenfurt to Ljubljana, taking into account the border and traffic jams an hour and half is more than enough. Austria requires a prepaid ticket for highway, but you can easily avoid it. I Slovenia you will only have to pay a few Euros for the highway. Slovenia is in Euro zone, so this is the only currency you will need.
I think it is not possilble to pick a car in KL and leave it at LJ. You miht want to check that befer you go. KL and LJ have good train connections...
Greets.

The sorroundings of Klagenfurt...

by highd

The sorroundings of Klagenfurt is beautiful. When you are in the town you must see the Lindwurm and drink a beer at the pub 'Pumpe' Although I can't remember it: I was born there. I live about 30 km from Klagenfurt. You see the place on the picture. In winter we have a lot of snow and sometimes it happens that you break your bones when skiing.

Finish everything on the plate!

by A2002

I went to a cafe and ordered a bread with a thick layer of sugar with cinnamon. I do not remember what it is called, but it taste very sweet. I removed the layer of sugar and left it on the plate. I noticed that the owner of the cafe collecting the empty plates and cups when the customers had finished. I had finished, but the owner did not collect my plate. I thought "Maybe I am a foreigner, so she's letting me finish first."

I also noticed that before leaving the shop, everyone would say "Bitte schon". Wanting to be polite too, I said "Bitte schon" to the owner. To my surprise, the owner gave me a very stern look and ignored me :-(. I kept thinking what was wrong... I think it is because I had left some pieces of sugar on my plate.

Well, I did not mean to make her angry. It is just that the food is too sweet for my taste, hence I removed the sugar.

Anyway, it was an experience for me...

The star player

by ATLC

To my utter amazement I turned out to be the star player! ATLC who hates sports, made consistenly good throws. Here my first go, not knowing yet that I'd be doing much better than my pathetic opponents. LOL! As Dutchies with a treacherous Belgian girl, we played against the Belgians and Romanians with one Dutch traitor. So in general it was Belgium against The Netherlands save some exceptions.

We won we won we won .... !

Early morning encounter

by ATLC

Something I'd like to share: a few years ago I was in Klagenfurt, Austria. I took an early Sunday morning stroll (really early, at 8 in the morning). I didn't see any coloured people in the streets in this city, I assume there weren't any, or just a few, living there.
In any case, in the distance I saw a black figure approach. She was a very old nun and wore a black habit (covered from head to toe) just like you see in films. In fact, I'd not seen this for real for many years.
We approached each other on the pavement and it turned out she was staring as hard at me, as I was at her. We were obviously quite exotic to each other, which I found quite funny.

a Porsche Cayenne as a taxi

by globetrott

How about a Taxiride in a Porsche Cayenne?
Here in Klagenfurt it might be interesting to know for some people, that one of the ordinary taxis there is a brand new Porsche Cayenne. I saw it accidentially and took a photo of it.
In case that you like to book this taxi, just call 2777 and ask for the Porsche Cayenne, because I am quite sure that this company will have other cars as well !

b.t.w. for all Porsche-fans:
The first Porschecars were all produced in Gmünd, not far from Klagenfurt and there is an excellent museum of some rare Porsches as well there in Gmünd !Read more about it in my Gmünd-page

How about a Porsche 959 ?
See it in the carmuseum of Hartberg
