BADEN TRINITY COLUMN

by JOEATT

I have just visited Baden in Austria . I would like to know which three saints are represented round the base of the column.
Thank You
Joe

Re: BADEN TRINITY COLUMN

by Reiseeule

Hi,
the three "plague saints" are: Karl Borromaeus, Rosalia and Rochus. You can usually find them on all plague columns (trinity columns) everywhere in Austria.
Best regards
Silvia

Hi Joe,
I just checked and realized that I have forgotten one: St. Sebastian. There are four saints there. Three on the front side (Sebastian, Rochus and Rosalia) and on the back Karl Boromaeus. So on every plague column you will find some of these guys.

Travel Tips for Baden

Rudolfshof

by manuelEB

I do apologize for the dark picture. This is the kind of spot I would like to go in my next visit to Baden. It is a coffeeshop if you will with a long history. A very free translation from their web site says:
"When the municipality established this forest hotel in the year 1881, it received first the name "mountain yard". But then, the wedding of Kronprinzen Rudolf with duchess Stephanie came about and the place since then was known as Rudolfshof."
With the beautiful view over Baden up to the Leithagebirge, this restaurant is a very popular.
To get here you need a car. But trust me, it is a
MUST SEE.

Heiligenkreuz

by Bjorgvin

Visit the Cistercian Abbey Heiligenkreuz. The Heiligenkreuz Monastery, Austria’s second oldest Cistercian monastery (1133), lies only ca. 13km northwest of Baden. It was founded by the margrave of Babenberg, but the Babenberg dynasty was the ruling house of Austria 976–1246. In Heiligenkreuz are many interesting things to see: the Babenberg tombs, the monastery chapel, the High Gothic choir hall and Baroque choir stalls, altar screens, Early Gothic cloisters, well-house with colorful stained-glass windows, St. Bernard chapel etc. In the Forest cemetery is the tomb of countess Mary Vetsera, the lover of Crown Prince Rudolf. In the library is a very valuable collection of old manuscripts (over 50,000 volumes).

Straus and Lanner memorial in the Kurpark of Baden

by manuelEB

This bronze of 1912 (I am a metallurgist by training so believe me) is located in the Kurpark of Baden. Close to the hills. The "Britonnica Encyclopaedia" says that this memorial in honour of Johann Strauss, father (because there is a Johann Strauss, son and probably also a Johann Strauss, Holy Spirit) and Joseph Lanner "remind the visitor that many melodies were inspired by the town of Baden"; which is a good thing ot say of any town. Baden is close to the famous "Vienna's Woods" were even the wood rats can dance Viennese Waltz. Back to the future: The summer concerts in the
Kurpark of Baden are cool!!!!

You will find there dolls and toys covering a period of 2 centuries.

Oldest items:
a kaleidoscope from 1760 and a paper doll with 8 robes from 1820

The place itself is set in the gardens of a very interesting example of the old Baden country house style of villa, the Attems Villa ( 1838 )

Adress:
Badener Puppen- und Spielzeugmuseum
Erzherzog-Rainer-Ring 23
Gartentrakt der Attemsvilla
