wonderful for the eyes... and for the mouth...

I went there in the summer and it was great walking around to Helenental and find out this great place along the Schwechat river.
The walk was full of surprises like beautiful villas, an aqueduct, ruins of a castle and when I finally got there, besides the beauty of the place, I also could enjoy a splendid Sachertorte at the Baden Sacher hotel coffehouse...
Cafe Metternich
by dvideira
Of course there are plenty of wonderful cafes and restaurants in Baden, but this one was special for me.
I felt there as a "local". I used to stop by for a "capuccino and pie" slowly enjoyed while looking at the Kurpark - just in front of me.
the tram

Baden has its own life. In themornig you can hear music coming out from several house in the neighborhood. Time for reharsal. Piano, violin, viola, chello.. you say it. It is llike a big orchestra without director and everyone playing a different
"tune". But Baden is close to Vienna and I guess that for many people is becomming like a bed-town. You work in Vienna, you sllep in Baden.
The tram these "kids" were waitnig for is the one that tooks you in 60 minutes to the city centre.
Ludwig von Beethoven
by manuelEB
Starting in 1804, Ludwig spent the summer season of fully 15 years in Baden. The house shown in the picture was his residence. Since Vienna was not far away (45 minutes in tram car and 20 minutes by car using the highway) he repeatedly moved back and forth between his residences in both cities. I a not sure he had a proper international drving license, but who cares he was a genius. My friend, a professional musician, mentioned that the rumor has that many of the Ludwig-chan's
important works (thus became CDs that you can buy if oyu have money) where composed in Baden. For example, most of his Ninth Symphony, and part of the "Eroica".
It is noteworthy the spirit of the genius, of the man who is not mean with others because he knows his strength is genuine: In 1812, Banden was consumed by a great fire. Ludwig organized a charity concert in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, to help the victims. Listening to the stories in every spot of this pretty town.
The Wines of Austria
by Bjorgvin
Baden bei Wien is situated in the heart of a wine-growing region. The white wines of Austria are generally crisp and refreshing and the reds fruity and inviting. Also produced are sweet dessert wines (mostly Riesling from a late harvest) and dry sparkling wines (sekt). The best white-wine grapes grown in this area are Neuburger, Grüner Veltliner and Rheinriesling, and the red Blauer Portugieser and Zweigelt grapes. In the vaults of the Heiligenkreuzer Hof at the Green Market (Grüner Markt) is a winegrower's tavern where the different wines that grow around Baden can be tasted and bought.
