Emperor Friedrich III, "the sleepyhead of the Holy Roman Empire" as they often referred to him in a mocking tone, had often been to Baden, and also Friedrichs Portugese wife, Emperess Eleonora obviously liked it better in Baden than within the cool walls of the Hofburg in Vienna or the residence in Wiener Neustadt.
Flowers in the trees
by manuelEB
It took me by surprise; it was early May and well "off the beaten path" in Baden I found a street with
a row of trees in full blossom. Later in the "super beaten path" area, close to the Casino, I saw flowers but not in the trees. As matter of fact there were not trees with flowers in the whole area. Only in this street that who knows the name and who knows it was located. I just drive through and
Annapet's technique did the rest. I missed the name of these street.
Hauptplatz

Here we are in the Hauptplatz (Main Square). This kind of columns are very common in Austria, and I
am not sure to have seen them in Germany or other European countries. They commemorates the victory over the plague. Here in Baden is called the Trinity Column, and it is written there that was built in 1714. It seems that the plague badly affected Vienna and surrondings in middle
1600's. I am wrtting the palgue but I should write
a plague, because Vienna appears affected several times, over the years, by plagues. The plague and the rats are closely related, do not forget it.
The Parks of Baden
by Bjorgvin
In the historical city parks of Baden, the rose garden (Doblhoffpark) and the spa gardens (Kurpark), all kinds of festivities take place. In June there is a Rose Blossom Festival in the Rosarium and in the summer months concerts in the spa gardens and an operetta festival in the Sommer Arena. The Strauss family was in many ways connected with Baden. In the Kurpark is a monument dedicated to the elder Johann Strauss (1804-1849) and his musical partner Josef Lanner (1801-1843), as they were frequent performers in the gardens, and the setting of 'The Bat' (Die Fledermaus), written by Johann Strauss the younger (1825-1899), takes place in a spa town south of Vienna!

Visit the <Thermalstrandbad (Thermal public swimming pool), opened from may to september. After the end of the monarchy the community Baden built the thermal public swimming pool in a kind of Art Deco style in 1926 in merely 16 weeks. 5000 m² pool-area and an extensive sandy beach was intended to create the impression of being in an Adriatic open air bath and pool of the old monarchy. In 1930 a section of the parklands of Castle Weilburg was integrated thus turning the open air bath into one of the biggest of Austria.
