Travel Tips for Wiener Neustadt

City Wall

by desert_princess

The city walls built between the end of the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century were partly financed by ransom money paid for the release of the English King Richard the Lionheart. Some of the stones of this wall are joined in the form of "opus spicatum" '(spicated stone work).

by desert_princess

Gothic Path Pillar " The Spinner at the cross"
Donated at the end of the 14th century by the Wiener Neustadt city judge, that later became the city's governor - Wolfahrt von Schwarzensee.
Is considered to be the work of the herzog architect Michael Knab.
Has been restaured many times, for the last time under the reign of governor Peter Wittmann in 1993/94 with funds from "association for conservation of Spinnerin am Kreuz"

Wiener Neustadt Canale Grande

by desert_princess

Somewhere in the outskirts you will find the Canale Grande of Wiener Neustadt.
It's a good place to go fishing, canoeing with your family, cycling on the side...
If you follow that water path, it will take you all the way to Vienna !!!

Feedback on Wiener Neustadt page

by desert_princess

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am so grateful to you for putting your
photos online and sharing them. And the resolution is just fine for my
purposes, certainly better than some of the shots I am using (old, older, and
very old). It gives the younger generations something to look at and realize
that these are real places.

I also noticed in my folder of "pictures to seek permission to use" that I also
have a couple of your pictures from the Tirol.

Another of my grandmother's line that I am writing about was born in Nikolsdorf,
Tirol, so I might like to use the picture of the meadow with the cows (which
looks amazingly like my grandmother's farm in America)and the picture of a
private house -- but only if I can't get a picture of the town and the church.
Our Tirol ancestor was a tailor and merchant there,so he must have lived in
town. Thank you again for sharing and for your kindness.
