Hotel - OK, but Very Rude Owner

I would like to first say that everyone we met in Austria in general, and in Bad Ischl in particular were extremely friendly and helpful, save one - the owner/proprietor of the Goldener Ochs. We were there for 3 days, and without fail, this woman was rude, arrogant and went out of her way to be UNhelpful. I was mystified until I discovered that her reputation for unpleasantness was well-known in the town. On one occasion she actually hung the phone up on me! The hotel itself was alright, clean and comfortable even if the decor was a bit "old ladyish" for my taste. This woman's demeanor was the only sour note in an otherwise perfect trip to Austria and while the Goldener Ochs was fairly good value, there are many other lovely hotels and guest houses in this delightful town. I would definitely NOT recommend this hotel in light of the other options. The Goldener Schiff seemed very nice, great location with staff who appeared to grasp the concept of customer service. If you have a slightly more luxurious budget, the Thermenhotel adjacent to the Kaiser Thermen spa is great and comes with some fabulous perks at the spa.
