Hochberghaus Familienalm - Familienhotel: Hochberghaus at the top

Just outside of the town proper is a road leading up to the 3 star hotel Hochberghaus 1200 meters (3600 feet up) on the top of the mountain.
The road is very well maintained but I came across some trees that collapsed into the road at the 1/4 way point.
At the 1000 meter point there is a large stone marker saying "Jetzt sag du" (Now you say).
At the top of the hill after many switchbacks is the Hochberghaus which is a 3 star hotel, restaurant/chalet.
The hotel has a great view of the valley and a ski hill and ski lift next to it. There are shuttles for skiing other mountains and a shuttle for the railroad station available as well.

Treehouse Backpackers Hotel: Cheap but Great Hostel in Grunau!

The owner (Gerhard) and the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home in their home. A free pick-up from the train station and a friendly hello go a long way.
The dinner offered is excellent and quite a value for the money (7 Euros as of April 2005) with a salad, soup or fruit bowl and the main course.
All rooms have a shower with hot water and a toilet. The beds are comfy as well with large pillows.
Rent a bike for the day (8 Euros) and go to the Almsee only a 2 hour ride away.
Relax at night and have a drink with the locals in the hostels' 2 bars or just watch a movie or two in the tv room.
The atmosphere is great. The scenery is outstanding and the service is without question. You feel like you're staying at a relatives' home rather than a hostel.
Say hello to the local Max if you see him and buy him a drink if you feel like it. Maybe he will don you "A good drinker!" as well.

This is a pretty affordable place to stay. I paid 88 Euros for 3 nights, 3 large dinners, one beer, one pizza, and a bike rental!

2 bars, great views, comfortable rooms, all rooms have showers and toilets, great staff, cheap food, lots of activities, english movies, internet available
