So enamored with my very presence in Hallstatt, the fact of there being no advance accommodation preparations seemed as but a departed care. If arriving during the peak period between June and September, reservations are accepted for durations greater than two nights.
Gasthof Simony can actually be seen from the main ferry dock where one arrives if commuting over the lake from the Hallstatt train station. This gasthof offers waterfront accommodation and a comfortably proportioned garden and sun bathing terrace for guests.
Its yellow façade is lodged in a corner of the cobble stoned square, closest to the lake, and cheerfully displays "Gasthof Simony" in bold letters that can't be missed.
Now, you have truly arrived and here there will be enjoyed a most delightful respite, for the home managed by the proprietress, Frau Schuetz (and family), is lovingly prepared and overflowing with comforting touches.
You may expect kind and informal gesture in getting settled to your room. For those with accessibility concerns, call or write ahead to inquire the availability of rooms on the ground floor, (this writer is uncertain) as many will ascend a perfectly creaky staircase, adorned with country treasures.
The solo traveler is welcomed at Gasthof Simony, and a single twin bed option can be reserved. My room faced Lake Hallstatt, on the top (third) floor, its bread box length opening up onto a sun-bleached balcony, equipped with stunning views and space to sit.
Unique Quality: The complimentary breakfast spread at Gasthof Simony is ideal and a welcomed addition of choice for the well heeled hosteller or backpacker. Hallstatt does not offer true hostel accommodation, though there are several well priced rooms around town, of which Simony is one.
Soft camembert cheese, fresh fruit, sliced meats, cereals, rolls and homemade strudel, are among the delights of morning at this oasis. Don't be surprised if you sit for an hour or more around the wood burning fire, sipping of your fresh coffee, tea or juice.
Gasthof Simony is a sure recommendation for simple, "country home" inspired comfort, with the added amenities of waterfront fun and not-to-be-forgotten views.

We arrived to our original hotel with nobody at the desk an the place closed up at 830 pm. We stayed at the first place we found open and found it to be the best accommodation I have ever had (by chance).
A lovely place to stay in Hallstatt is the Gasthof Simony. It is a 450 year old house right on the square and less than 5 mins walk from the pier where the boat docks.
Frau Susanna was nice and kind, and I was given a room where the view from my balcony was magnificent. It was a great way to relax in the relative quiet with my newspaper and the view of the lake and mountains before me.
The bed here was the best I slept in while travelling in Austria, fluffy and soft and comfortable. The facilities were also clean and spotless.
Breakfast was more than adequate and was a very delicious and homely affair.
A single room with shower and WC on the same floor cost me 35 Euros in very early April.
